12 Fascinating Things About Melania Trump’s Childhood
History of her childhood at a glimpse.
You probably have heard about the rags-to-riches story of Melania Trump, but there are some fascinating facts from her childhood that are worth a glimpse. Born in a tiny Slovenian town, the wife of the 45th President of the United States was raised in a blue-collar environment.
The mysterious woman carries several tales of her childhood — as everyone else does. Let’s read stories about her youth below.
1. She came from a working-class background in Slovenia
Melania’s mother worked as a clothes designer in a factory, whereas her father sold car parts. The entire family was hardworking, ambitious and well-dressed. Talking about ambition, the family living in the “Communist-era apartment block” had always encouraged young Melania to take advantage of modelling opportunities.
2. Melania’s Mom Harvested Red Onions
Before getting recruited to work in the factory, Melania’s mom pickled red onions on her family farm. Upon moving to the town, the woman started as a country girl and later became a working-class woman. Amalija Knausa also sewed Melania’s clothes after work.
3. Trump reminded Melania of her dad
The ex-US president reminded Melania of her Communist dad — a reason for admiring Trump more. Interestingly, Melania’s dad is five years older than Trump, and interestingly, they share an uncanny physical resemblance too.
As far as Melania’s words go, she told GQ:
They’re both hardworking. They’re both very smart and competent. They grew up in totally different environments, but they have the same values, they have the same tradition. I myself am similar to my husband. Do you understand what I mean? So is my dad; he is a family man, he has tradition, he is hardworking. So is my husband.
Additionally, Melania’s father was an active participant in the Communist Party, under the dictatorship of Josip Broz Tito. Owing to this very reason, Melania was not baptized or participated in the communion — as Communists do not allow organized religion.
Being a member of the communist party later enabled Victor Knaus to provide for his family. Following her dad’s footsteps, Melania worked her sweat off to detach from her middle-class roots.
Her dad was a great support during the time and drove several hours to pick up leather dresses for her.
4. Her ‘BFF’ is her sister
Among her favorite people in the world is her sister Ines, and both had always stayed close since childhood.
Moving to Milan gave another chance to the best friends to stay close where they rented a small apartment when trying to make it big in the fashion world. Ines tried her luck in fashion design while Melania modelled all the while.
5. Melania danced to ‘Wham’ With her boyfriend
Peter Butoln, a guy who claims to be Melania’s first boyfriend, stated how the two fell in love when she was 17 and how he drove her around on his Vespa’s back to a local discotheque, a place where they danced to wham!
According to this narrative, Melania might have mourned the passing of George Micheal in 2016 — a band that gave her memories.
6. Melania has never met her older half-brother
Melania’s half brother exists as her father, Viktor, earlier had a fling and got the girl pregnant, later asking for an abortion. Viktor’s son Denis Cigelnjak was born in 1965, but Viktor had denied paternity ever since, despite the legal suits over him.
According to GQ, Melania’s half brother misses dad’s presence in his life, and he would love to meet his half-sisters.
7. Melania did her first catwalk at five
This woman’s modelling career started at five. Her mom was already designing clothes in the factory, having an association with the fashion world — no wonder Melania did her first catwalk at five.
As far as the commercials are concerned, Melania officially stepped into the market at 16, later signing a modelling agency through which she travelled places from Paris to Milan.
8. Aspirations of Melania
As a kid, Melania aspired to become a fashion designer. On vacation to Western Europe to show, the girl got herself fashion bibles, bringing them home to absorb.
She would later draw designs and hand them over to her mother, who would then try to sew. During this while, Melania enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in architecture, but she dropped out a year later.
9. Melania didn’t connect with any childhood friends once she made it big
It was in 1992 when she secured a position in a Slovenian modelling contest. Leaving her hometown for Milan, after a year in college, left her with few chances of speaking to old friends, and after making it big, Melania did not keep in touch with childhood pals either.
10. She Liked To Add Scents To Her Notebooks For School
When Melania resided in Sevnica, she went to a school at a throw-away distance. Classmates recall how she used to add scent to her notebooks for experiencing a pleasant smell while jotting down notes.
11. She knitted sweaters in school & always dressed well
Young Melania was always groomed. Her mother ensured her daughters would dress to impress. Melania herself was cautious of her dressing as she used to knit sweaters to wear in elementary school.
Interestingly, when Melania’s mother inquired about the sweaters she knitted in her youth, the ex-first lady responded to throw them away.
12. Melania is celebrated every day by the people of Sevnica
Melania’s childhood was transparent, but as of now, her life is webbed with mysteries. People own varying opinion about her, but for Sevnica, she would always remain their favorite daughter. They even offer five hours “Melania Trump Tours” to show visitors where the ex-first lady grew up.
