This 1 Extremely Simple Habit Will Make You Happier

I’ve been following it daily for the last two years

Have you ever wonder how you got to this stage in your life? How has the path of your life been driven? Or what were you doing wrong or right which leads you to this reality; if you asked yourself those questions at least once, it means something.

In times, when the boom of self-improvement information is around the corner, and gurus are all over the world. The good habits and routines are right there to pick them up, with repetition and perseverance, you will get them, just one condition is required the will to change.

There is no excuse; it is merely a choice: Meditation, Gratitude, Exercise, Reading, and Writing everyday are effective and well-known habits. I have been practicing all of them, and I can assure you all work with persistence you will get them.

Let’s give them a quick view.

Meditation

The purpose of meditation is to be with yourself for a moment, stop the time and enjoy. Even if you don’t feel anything, in the beginning, it is okay. I realized that my problem was trying to understand. However, there is nothing to understand there. Just focus on your breath and don’t think about anything else. If a thought pops into your head, gently let it go without judgment, try to keep your focus back on your breath, and enjoy the quiet moment.

Gratitude

Nowadays we take everything that we have around us for granted: the food we have, the bed we sleep, the coffee we drink, now in this crisis, the toilet paper is a good example, now that we don’t have it in those shelves at the stores we appreciate it more.

Gratitude helps us to keep the feet on the ground, to appreciate everything we have that maybe one day will not be here with us, this applies to everything since a small piece of bread to eat until your loved ones who are healthy and close to you.

A few minutes being grateful is enough to have a boost of positive energy for all your day.

Writing

Keep in mind, we all are writers when you are compounding an email; you are a writer when you are typing a doc, you are a writer, so there is no shame on write whatever you feel.

Writing is a fantastic way to know yourself better. Whatever you want to say, your feeling, fears, anything instead of thinking writes them all; this will help you to clarify your mind, you can mix it up, write what are you grateful for, write your thoughts, what did you do good or wrong during your day, ideas for the day. Freewriting is always helpful.

Reading and Exercise

I put those together for one reason: Nowadays, the benefit of both are well-known. When I say reading, I refer to good books for a simple reason. Learn something new from someone who has already achieved goals; is it not worthy?

Exercise, there are no excuses for this while there is no gym; we can do crunches at home, going for a walk for 20 minutes, or practicing yoga. I am trying this one. Exercise is always a must to keep a healthy body and brain.

They are essential in our daily life. However, the main one makes them more powerful and the process of each more enjoyable. Besides, everybody everywhere seems to be busy, we forget about it, working on autopilot each moment of our daily life.

The Habit of Being Present

If you learn only one thing from this post, make it that, this is going to be a strong base to nurture more habits.

While the tendency today is living according to the past or the future. One moment we’re reminiscing or regretting, the next we’re planning or worrying. Meanwhile, we neglect the one moment that is fully available to us: The present.

When you are depressed is always something that happened time ago, which is past. When you are anxious is still something — you believe — will occur in the future. As the author of the book “The Power of Now” Eckhart Tolle says

“ All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present. — Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry- all forms of fear — are caused by too much future, and not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness, and all forms of non-forgiveness are caused by too much past, and not enough presence”.

Observing your mind without judgment is the best way to separate yourself from it and free yourself from pain.

Eckhart Tolle suggests that if you realize that your mind is causing pain and preventing you from truly living in the present, you need to detach yourself from these two methods.

  1. If you want to observe your mind, ask yourself:“what will my next thought be?” — if you focus entirely, you will see that it takes a while before the next clear thought arrives. Through observing, you’ve managed to create a gap in the flow of thinking; if you do that consistently, you will have found the tool for interrupting your mind and thus separating from it.
  2. Another method available to you is to observe your mind without judging. Judging is itself an act of the mind, so if you judge something, you are back to using your mind again. For example, if you are focus on a task and you realize that you need to go for a walk, just go, you will listen to a voice telling you that what are you doing? You need to get those things done, observe and hear that voice without a judge and don’t attempt to follow the advice. Just smile at it, and accept. By doing so, you’ll learn to notice your mind without having to follow it to wherever it’s trying to lead you.

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make that Now the primary focus of your life” — Eckhart Tolle

Finally, we have the power to choose what is good or bad for us in our life, it’s a matter of choice but without being present, here and now in each moment of your day never even the best habit will work effectively.

Thanks for reading!
