Your Feelings Matter — Don’t Dismiss Them
Advice on managing your thoughts and emotions

Readers please note: If you are experiencing severe depression or suicidal thoughts, please know you can get help. Call the National Crisis Hotline at 1–800–273–8255 or National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1–800–273–8255.
If you are ashamed of how you feel, disappointed in how you feel, or believe your feelings aren’t worthy, I’m here to encourage you to never dismiss those low feelings that visit us at times.
It’s during these times of lowness, depression, sadness, and loneliness that we need to acknowledge our feelings, accept our feelings, and let them be.
We don’t need to force these feelings away or make a big deal out of them. We also don’t need to always understand why we feel certain emotions or explore them in dire detail. Sometimes it’s okay to simply feel low.
Cherish these moments that serve as a reminder to love yourself, be kind to yourself, honor yourself, and be gentle with yourself. Whatever you do, never dismiss your feelings, and never allow others to dismiss or belittle your feelings.
Feel the feelings, and let them pass. It is critical during these times that we remember all of the people and things (intangible and tangible) that we can be grateful for. It is gratitude that can help bring us out of dark and low moments with swiftness. Keep naming things you are grateful for until you feel emotional relief.
