Your Dark Night of The Soul Will Soon Be Over, I Promise
And everything will make sense.
The dark night of the soul is one of the most confusing, lonely and painful experiences we can go through — specially when we don’t even know what it is.
It usually begins with an extreme sense of discomfort. Suddenly, we’re unable to feel joy doing things we once loved. We feel hopeless and overwhelmed.
Old friends are now uncomfortable memories because we just don’t resonate with them anymore. We don’t know why, so we don’t know what to tell them — so, we let these friendships naturally evaporate. And it hurts. A lot.
Something feels off.
Something is out of alignment and we have no idea what it is.
Sooner or later, it becomes obvious: we were out of alignment. We were wasting our precious life ignoring our authentic self, leaving our emotional, physical and spiritual needs behind to please everyone around us. We were pretending to be someone we’re not to make others feel safe.
The thing is, the Universe has this weird habit of forcing us to look at ourselves, no matter how hard we try to hide our wounds. And this is the time. We can’t run away anymore.
I know you’re tired of this journey. But hang in there, just a little bit longer. It will be over soon, I promise. In the meantime, I hope these words help you find some strength.
Remember This Is For Your Highest Good
I know it probably doesn’t feel like it, but this is for your highest good.
It’s for your highest good because you can’t expect to embody the purest, brightest version of yourself without leaving some darkness behind first.
It’s for your highest good because your past is still controlling your present reality, whether you’re aware of it or not. And you need to learn how to live with it first.
It’s for your highest good because your wounds need healing and your emotions need to be released.
It’s for your highest good because there is no growth without discomfort, and there is no healing without pain.
It’s for your highest good because you deserve to be free from outside forces and expectations.
Because no one — and I mean no one — knows you better than you know yourself and you need to accept it and learn to turn inward instead of seeking external validation.
Your inner wisdom has all the answers you need, even when you’ve been ignoring it for years. Even when there’s too much noise around you. Even when your present reality is incredibly painful. Even when you don’t trust your inner experiences.
You just need to start paying attention to it again, and that takes time.
Everything You Need Is Already Within You
I know everything feels painful and unfair. I know you think you can’t stand the pain anymore. But you can. I know you can.
Everything you need — absolutely everything — is already within you. Even when you feel hopeless. Even when you feel weak. In fact, this is the biggest lesson the Universe is trying to teach you right now: that you’re more powerful than your circumstances.
You have indeed lost your sense of direction, but that’s a good thing. The direction you were headed was not really yours. All the goals and plans you had were simply the result of many external forces — your family, friends, society, past relationships and childhood conditioning.
This is why losing your sense of direction is actually a blessing: it means these external forces are losing their power over you. It means you’re reconnecting with your inner guidance system.
Your authentic self is finally coming up to the surface, and that’s terrifying when you’ve spent years ignoring its presence.
The thing is, the first step to honor and embody your true self is to let your old self die. You have to shed some pretty heavy layers of ideas and beliefs that you have applied your whole life but are not serving you anymore.
That is painful — incredibly painful. So, give yourself some credit. You deserve it. You really do.
The only reason the dark night is taking place is for us to heal ourselves to redirect our lives. The more disconnected we were, the more healing we need.
It can be tempting to believe that we should make drastic decisions in order to change our life — which only reinforces our fear of making these decisions. From my experience, this couldn’t be further from the truth.
A dark night is all about rebuilding your sense of self, and your sense of self will not be built with drastic decisions. You will, however, need courage, consistency and commitment.
Instead of feeling sorry for yourself for not being able to live your old life behind overnight, focus on making small, consistent choices that deeply align with the person you are becoming. That’s how real change takes place.
