You Will Earn $1,000 from Medium in 3 Months

Hint: get your head in the game and stay in the game.

94% of people reading this make less than $100 per month on Medium. That’s a flip of the often-quoted stat that 6% of writers make over that amount. I’m here to say that in three months, you will make over $1,000 from Medium.

Am I pissing in the wind? Maybe. But I ate some pineapple, and it smells sweet.

I read the book by David O. about the 4-Figure Medium Writer Secrets. Even after Medium’s crack at reading times and pay rates, David is still clearing $1k a month (as of November 2020).

You’re Not Going to Like This

The crucial step to making 4-figures in three months has to do with vision boards and manifesting. You are going to write down, “I am so happy and grateful for making $1,000 from Medium in [insert date three months from today].” You are going to look at that and say it aloud every day until that date.

80% of you reading this say it won’t work; 94% of you reading this aren’t going to try it. The rest of you will make $1,000 from Medium three months from now.

Jim Carrey did this same exercise, but instead wrote a check to himself for $10 million, post-dated it for ten years, and repeated his mantra daily. He carried that check in his wallet. Ten years later, he cashed it.

Write yourself a check, if you want. But don’t neglect writing out your mantra above, and be sure to read it daily. Several times a day.

The Basics

Obviously, you’ll need to enroll in the partner program and play by Medium’s rules. There are some gray areas with the rules, such as this article. I’m making money on it, but because I’m talking about Medium (which the distribution gods despise), it won’t get chosen for further distribution. But it is hopefully useful and engaging to you, so it’s successful in that regard.

Besides the mantra above, the number one way to making $1,000 in three months is to write and publish every day.

If you don’t repeat that mantra and write every day, you won’t make $1,000 in three months.

This approach is different for Tim Denning. You aren’t Tim Denning; I’m not Tim Denning. Once you become your version of Tim Denning, then you have momentum on your side. You can use your millions of dollars and followers to keep going.

Bonus tip: Don’t aim to become Tim Denning. You are unique and have your own life experiences and interests. I want to read about them. I don’t want to read you mimicking Denning; I want to read about your life’s perspectives.

Icing on the Cake

We can debate about the length of your articles and the topics you should write about, but that’s nitpicking. Yesterday I saw a short poem with over 1k claps within five hours of publishing. The author’s other works got handfuls of claps, not thousands. The most important thing isn’t length and skill, but it’s about the amount of content and getting lucky with a couple of posts.

Say your mantra every day. Write and publish every day.

There are a few more easy things that you should incorporate:

• Write for the reader. You should be a reader. Know what you like to read and write about what you would like to read.
• Break up your paragraphs and use section headers.
• Use a title and picture that captures attention.
• Run your words through Grammarly. I hate editing; I love Grammarly.
• Add relevant tags. Use all five.
• Submit to publications. Mix it up between smaller, medium, and large. Some publications take a couple of days; others take WEEKS (why is this The Ascent?)

My Secret Sauce

You’re going to get frustrated. You might already be frustrated. It may even exasperate you seeing articles like this that tell you that you can make $1,000 off Medium. Hang in there. Repeat your mantra.

• You’re not in this alone.
• We’re in this together.
• Don’t compare yourself to other writers.
• Repeat your mantra.

Medium has changed to a more relational program. At its core, it is a social media platform. The guy that created it is the co-whatever of Twitter. They want people to interact. They’ll pay you to interact.

Read this article I wrote about cross-pollination. Your numbers will begin to multiply a lot faster if you apply this method. It isn’t about instant results; it’s about compound interest. But you have to start investing today and continue to invest every day until you hit your goal.

The Bottom Line

Read aloud your mantra every day; write and publish every day. In three months, Medium will pay you $1,000.
