You Should Believe in Yourself

Where to start, how to improve?

I was a very inquisitive young man at the start of my career, who wanted to do many things but did not know where to start.

I thought that perhaps I might not be the best, but giving up is not something I believe in. With these thoughts in my mind, I started searching for programming jobs to improve my experience.

I searched almost 3 to 4 months. But all of the companies said I was inexperienced.

Only it was a logical mistake. Without a job, I couldn’t have any experience, and without experience, I couldn’t get a job.

I was caught in this cycle. And then I’ve met a man, he became my mentor. He had this same problem with his career and managed to fight it by owning his own business. He developed his projects for his company for experience.

I did the same but not as a company.

I first learned some web programming basics; I then launched my site. On that site, I introduced who I was, my skills, and what I offered. Of course, nothing has happened.

I didn’t give up. I then reviewed sites that posted job offers for developers. I began to apply for every project that involved web programming. I still remember applying to 50 project posts.

After a while, I got my first project. I completed it in 7 days and received my paycheck. It was such a great moment for me. I never stopped. After completing 10 projects, I added them on my LinkedIn profile.

I again started applying on different posts, but now with experience. I landed my first job in a small web agency. Finally, I had a job.

The time I spent with them was just short of 2 years, and the amount I learned from them was unimaginable. We keep in touch to this day. I can say it took about a year but, in the end, I succeeded.

No matter what happened, you should believe in yourself and go on. In Turkish, they have an idiomatic expression: “Su akar, yatağını bulur,” which means “Water flows and finds its bed.” Just keep moving. You will succeed.

Thank you for interest. Have a wonderful day!
