You Must Post on Medium for Several Years to See Real Results
Without years and years of writing on Medium, you’re at a disadvantage in the long-run

Time is the number one thing that gives the top writers an advantage over all the rest of us. —

Without ample amounts of time spent writing on the platform, we are at a disadvantage, and for that reason, we shouldn’t panic.
By doing your part to package your content to the highest degree of accuracy possible over a long period of time, you’re going to make brain surgeon money on here.
In this article, I’m going to talk about why time is such a crucial element to Medium success.
I’m Not a Top Writer Yet
So I know what you’re thinking, hey Jordan, you just hit 1k followers, and now you think you can tell everyone how to get real results on Medium?
Yes, I am. That’s because I’m reading and I’m listening. All I’ve been studying lately are the top writers such as Ayodeji Awosika, Matt Lillywhite, and Anthony Moore. The content these gentlemen put out for free amazes me.
It’s not a matter of if I’ll make it big on Medium, it’s only a matter of when. If you can adapt that same mindset, then you’ll be well on your way to making a full-time income writing here. I’m not close yet, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Just because you’re not a top writer yet, doesn’t mean you can’t educate yourself on what it takes to get there. The information and data are available for you to see whether that be from Medium articles or the profiles of top writers themselves.
Useful tip:
Write often, and study your face off. Please read the material from top writers in your niche and see what they do so well. Don’t plagiarize their work, but imitate the best features they have in their writing that appeal to you.
Top Writers Have More Time on The Platform
When I watched Ayodeji’s YouTube videos, (yes he makes YouTube videos!), I noticed that he had been writing since 2015, back when the Medium Partner Program didn’t even exist!
Five whole years.
This man has five years on me within the platform. Sure, he started as someone who had never written anything in his life, but soon enough, he hit it big time. Remember that not all writers you follow get lucky overnight.
None of them probably do.
When you pull up to a Medium profile and see they have over 20k followers, your instinct is to see them as credible, possibly lucky, and perhaps hard-working. You have to think about the journey.
Everyone starts with zero followers.
It’s not an easy walk in the park to get thousands and millions of reads. It takes trusting the process and not getting too ahead of yourself. When views are down, you’ve got to keep plugging and chugging content. It’s perfectly fine to have bad writing days, but keep going.
Useful Tip:
If you end up quitting, it’ll be 10x harder to pick back up where you left off later. So unless you want to stop writing for good, keep on going. We’re here for you.
Essential Points You Need to Know
So when it comes to Medium, it can seem like you’re not making as much money or progress as you’d like. That’s a normal feeling. We all want things fast. It’s human nature. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
Remember that time spent on the platform equates to how much of a following you have and the amount of readership you attract.
So the next time you tell someone it’s hard to make it on Medium, and they ask you, “so how long have you been writing for?” the answer should at least be 1–2 years. Try not to get caught up in the moment. Just live in it and keep moving forward.
Thanks for reading,
— Jordan
