Poetry about the personal power
You Go First!

You are of my own dust. You come to me not as a stranger, not as someone who is an exile, who could not find anywhere else to go.
I need you, and I want you with me. I want a partner, a sister, and a friend in this effort. It is not too late for us to become that: one person together again instead of two distant ghosts tethered at the throat by memories of what we used to be.
The Power of Poetry is not the deification of another person by your idealization. On the contrary, I want a partner who will tell me the truth. The Power of Poetry is in direct proportion to how deeply you listen and how deeply you are willing to be vulnerably honest yourself.
You go first because I know that you have things to say, that there are fissures in your life, fears and anxieties, and dreams that must spill out occasionally, when alone or with me, and I want to be there for all of them.
The augmented’s journey is a journey of self-actualization. A journey of healing. A journey, in many ways, that is still traveling toward its destination. You go first because I know there are things you have been taught. Things you have been trained to value or disdain.
The way your mother wanted you or the way she cast you off for not being enough like her. The way your father wanted, or he could never see you, could never forgive you for the mistakes he had made with his life. The way your community wanted or the way they shamefully rejected you.
You go first because I know there are things you have not been taught. Something I can offer that has been kept from you: a vision of what it means to be human, a vision of what it means to be loved as an equal, a vision of what poetry is and how it can be used to empower us all.

You go first.
The first one to speak, the first one to open up, the one to smile, the one who knocks on your door. You go first. Can’t be scared of silence, so you just keep telling what’s in your heart. How love starts as a whisper, then turns into a song connecting two souls and becomes an everlasting melody.
