Writing Contests
You Can Earn $1000 by Writing Only 3 Lines
This sounds insane, but it is real via the new Vocal Media writing challenges.

This post is a piece of exciting news for poets on Medium and Vocal Media. I love poetry and read a few every day. But I haven’t created one for public view yet. One day, I might gain the confidence to join the poetry community.
Vocal Media has amazed me since I joined it last month. It is an exciting and supportive platform for writers offering constant challenges.
I wrote about previous challenges in a post titled Introducing Two Vocal Writing Contests. I also shared my first impression of Vocal in a story titled I Finally Joined Vocal+ and Reaped Immediate Benefits.
Due to my limited time, I couldn’t participate, but a few of my friends did. I wish them good luck in winning. Please inform me if you are one of the winners so that we can celebrate it together.
In this story, I want to introduce a new challenge offered by Vocal Media.
It is called the Blue Haiku challenge.

This writing content is for poets. Particularly for those who can write haikus. I never wrote a haiku and only discovered it when I joined Medium. In the publications I support, I saw three lines of poems that attracted my attention, and I couldn’t make sense of them initially.
Later I found out that they were cleverly penned pieces by talented poets. So then I got hooked on them and read every haiku submitted to Illumination. I hope one day I will be able to write such interesting pieces.
Let me get Back to the Haiku challenge on Vocal Media. First, let me introduce the prerequisites.
The first point is the entry requires only three lines. It should include 17 syllables. The first line requires five syllables. The second line should be seven syllables. And the third line should be five syllables. I didn’t know haiku was so specific and required a lot of intricate considerations.
You can submit your entry to the Poets community on Vocal media. You will see this community when you submit your piece.
Your haiku needs to relate to the color blue to qualify for the challenge,. It can be about the blue sky, blue flowers, blue oceans, etc. According to Vocal, Blue symbolizes harmony, tranquillity, creativity, loyalty, and sometimes sadness. By the way, blue is my favorite color.
Vocal informs that “Historically, haiku writers have used this poetry format to express emotions felt when communing with nature. A masterful Blue Haiku will evoke an emotion in their poem about something blue.”
To guide the poets, Vocal provided guidance in a story titled High-ku Challenge Winners. I enjoyed this informative and inspiring article.
Now let me introduce the incentives for joining this contest. The grand prize is $1,000. The second place is $250. And ten runners-up will get $25. So at least 12 people will get a chance to win this contest.
Your poem needs to meet Vocal’s community guidelines. As far as I know, they don’t accept harmful content like hate speeches. Not that haiku writers would do something like this, but I want to point it out.
Participants also need to be older than 13 years. Only writers from countries supporting Stripe qualify to earn money from the contest. You can still join the competition for fun but cannot get the prize.
Who knows, it might bring intangible benefits, so it is worth trying if you are a haiku writer and have an extensive collection. I met a friend who has published a haiku book and earned a few thousand dollars.
I like writing challenges on Medium; therefore, I got attracted to writing contests on Vocal. They inspire me.
I wish Medium also creates such challenges by offering incentives to writers. I heard that Medium once provided it before I joined the platform.
As a writer and editor, I want to create awareness of Vocal Media contests.
I started writing on Vocal Media and enjoy the platform very much. If you are new to Vocal, you can join with my referral link. It will not cost you extra similar to Medium membership.
Anyway, you have now 11 days to write three lines and increase your chance of earning some money. I wish you good luck in this contest. If you win, please let us know so that we can celebrate together on Vocal and Medium.
I hope we find ways to connect on various platforms. I noticed that writers could share their Vocal story links on Illumination’s Slack workspace. The name of the channel is #vocal-writers-and-stories. I will check that channel frequently to find Vocal stories.
I will share my experience with Vocal as I learn more.
I just recently wrote my 10th post and got paid $10. I also received a $5 tip which nicely surprised me. In addition, Vocal also gave me a $10 bonus for joining Vocal+, paying an annual fee. More importantly, they gave me a 10% discount for paying annually.
Here is a list of my recent stories in case you might find something interesting from my collection. Please feel free to share your vocal account as a comment to this story, so I can follow you and promote your stories on my socials.
