Sparking the reader’s imagination is what you’re after, right?
Of course, right? 😃
To do that, we’re talking about using a powerful technique called Implicit meaning. AKA: Subtext.
It’s when you imply something without specifically stating it.
Tempting your reader to read between the lines is another way to describe this technique. One Medium writer that’s very good at it is Yana Bostongirl.
Here’s an example of Implicit Meaning, or Subtext:
“She’s not like other girls/guys.”
You immediately read between the lines, didn’t you? But everybody comes to different conclusions. That’s what makes it intriguing for each reader. It depends on the context of their experiences.
