Will ‘Quarantime’ ever end?
I can’t wait for ‘Pandemend’!

Update: When this was originally published, spell check was used, and my words were changed. I have corrected them back to the new words I created!
I was invited by Tree Langdon to join her and her crew of writers who have been busy all summer, introducing neologisms. Here’s my invitation:
Without further ado, here is my story of words inspired by COVID-19.
Do you remember ‘Quarantime,’ back in the twenty’s?
We spent our days stuck inside until we were so tired of the same walls that we opened the door and went socialdisizing. Mostly we saw our Quaranteam team, my brother’s family, who lived just down the street. While there, we inevitably ended up gossiping. “Is Elsa’s new tummy pooch a quarantummy, or could it be a pandemaby?” and “Did you see that maskerciser in the neighborhood? I don’t know how she does it? She was running for at least an hour!” and “I’m so frustrated with all the COVIDoubters on my friends' list! When will we finally see the Pandemend? I don’t know about you, but it can’t get here soon enough for me!”
Quarantime
The period of quarantine during a pandemic.
Pandemend
The end date of the pandemic. Currently unknown.
Quaranteam — already in common usage. My definition below.
A group of people choosing to spend time together during a quarantine regularly.
Socialdisizing
Socializing at a social distance.
Quarantummy — already in common usage. My definition below.
The bulge from the 15–20 lb weight gain during a quarantine. Might be mistaken for a pandemic baby.
Pandemaby
- A baby conceived and/or born during the pandemic.
- A term used when speculating on the source of a woman’s new tummy bulge. “It might be a pandemic baby, but it’s probably just a quarantine tummy.”
Maskerciser
A super-human individual who is capable of exercising while wearing a mask.
COVIDoubter
A conspiracy theorist who believes that all of the countries and news organizations of the world have conspired to create a “made-up” virus to force them to wear a mask.
I want to invite the following new Illumination writers to participate in the challenge:
Caitlin Laughney, MSW, Celeste Tsang, Giles Hinchliff, Selbi, Owais Ali
