Summary

The website content provides writing prompts for Medium users to envision their future, review their New Year's resolutions, and explore the theme of the Year of the Tiger, with an invitation to join open writing hours for creative support.

Abstract

The article encourages writers to engage with weekly writing prompts that focus on future-oriented themes, including envisioning life ten years from now and reflecting on New Year's resolutions, particularly in light of the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Tiger. It suggests creating a detailed scene with dialogue to imagine future living and working conditions, and it prompts a reassessment of resolutions. Additionally, it invites writers to explore the symbolism of the tiger in their work. The article also announces open writing hours hosted by Harris Sockel and a colleague, providing a collaborative space for writers to develop their ideas every Thursday until the end of March. Writers are encouraged to publish their work on Medium with the tag "Writehere" for visibility and community engagement.

Writing Prompts: Another New Year

This week’s writing prompts ask you to look to the future

Happy Lunar New Year! Last week, we suggested that you dive into your memory to dig for idea gold. This week, let’s look to the future. Think future casting — but for your own life.

As always, you can publish your work on Medium and add the tag Writehere. That way we can all find each others’ work on the Write Here page. You are also welcome to drop a link to your story in the responses to this post.

Need to set aside time to write to these prompts (or to write something else?) My colleague Harris Sockel and I will be hosting open writing hours on Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. ET, this week through March 31. You can use this meeting link to join (the passcode is: Medium). See you there!

THIS WEEK’S PROMPTS

Write your future

Write a scene from your life in ten years. Try to make it an actual scene with vivid detail and maybe even dialogue, rather than just a list of ideas. Picture it: Where do you live? Where do you work? Has your job changed? Has your work space changed? What are your days like? What you like?

Review your resolutions

It’s been 2022 for a whole month already (!) — and many people are celebrating the Lunar New Year, ushering in the Year of the Tiger. Perhaps it’s time for a New Year’s Resolution refresh. How are you doing on your resolutions? Or would you like a re-do? What resolutions would you like to adopt for this lunar year?

Year of the Tiger

Since we’re starting the Year of the Tiger, write to the word “tiger.” What does it evoke to you? This can be literally about an actual tiger, or about anything the idea of that animal conjures up. Loosen up, get creative, and go where your inner tiger takes you.
