TIME IN MEDIUM

Writing Journey (Mar-Apr, 2020)

a journey map in Medium

Writing about a writing journey or about your writing is not writing-aha!

Am I not allowed to share my feelings and journey so that people can have a perspective of the journey & my experience?

This article is not a piece to tell everyone how I did and what is the success formula? I’m not a successful writer in that sense (high number of claps or huge followings or many articles or stories), and this is not a list of the secret formula.

In this writing, I’m just going to share the reason to start writing in Medium, the stories/poems list published in March and April, and the relevant other statistics. Also, whatever little learnings I have gathered throughout this short period (not in any particular order).

Somewhere around 2018, I first got the taste of Medium through a shared link, where I first read the article/story on this platform.

I was impressed by the writing style, different patterns of articles, and stories — although I didn’t subscribe immediately for Medium. However, because I had clicked a link on Medium, I was getting the list of top articles every week as a gist.

During this time, whenever I wrote an article or relevant writings, I have written in the LinkedIn platform to share with my network.

Pandemic hit the world in 2020, and when I had to start my office hour from March, I was thinking of writing down a relevant article to help my peers and other connected people during this lockdown.

And then I decided, why not try in Medium and then share the article on LinkedIn?

So I did.

My very first article published on Medium platform on March 22, 2020- with the headline, “How should you connect with your clients during this pandemic scenario?” The article was written explicitly for the Sales and Business Development individuals so that they can effectively manage the client engagement during this pandemic time. You can check this article in the following.

And that was the start.

First added in Publications:

The first publication to add me as a writer was a publication on writing tips. I understood that I have a lot to learn and hence didn’t contribute any writing to the publication.

ILLUMINATION was the next publication, where my request to add me as Dr Mehmet Yildiz approved a writer. I’m grateful that I am a part of this evolving publication, where diverse writers from different backgrounds and countries are opening up their emotions, thoughts, and wise words in writing. I am learning from them, their styles, and the way they are portraying their thoughts into words. All the writers are helping each other, supporting each other, and encouraging each other — which is a magnificent thing I have experienced in this publication.

Thank you ILLUMINATION.

Overall publications I contribute as a writer: 8.

The total number of publications I’m following: 36 (the number will be reduced, as I had added/followed to read articles, which is not possible for all 36 of them + I want to keep the list short and clutter-free).

Total articles or stories published between March 22- April 30: 14 (including four poems/poetry, nine pieces, and one introductory note). The article history is like the following:

Statistics on the articles: Graph created by the author (from medium Statistics)

Highest viewed article: How to keep yourself productive and energized in your home office (68 views).

Highest attained reads, fans and claps: Introductory notes to tell about myself.

Highest read vs view article: Writing ideas for ILLUMINATION as a fan (95%).

Important learning:

• It is important to read for writing • Encouragement from readers encourages the writers • Write / express, edit and then publish • Conversations are important to learn new perspectives • It is important to take a break to enjoy other perspectives of life.

The biggest hit so far (which came in May 2020)

“Major things you should avoid during this recession to safeguard your financial” — curated by Medium Editors in Medium ‘Money’ section. You can check it out in the following.

What’s next:

I’m looking forward to continuing my journey and explore things in Medium. I have started to contribute to a couple of publications and will try to write impactful writing to at-least give something from my experience as a Business Consultant.
