Summary

The website content introduces the first prompt of a 30-day April 2023 writing challenge, focusing on the topic of identifying the audience a writer writes for and the reasons behind their writing.

Abstract

The April 2023 Writing Challenge on the website has commenced with its first writing prompt for Day 01. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their target audience, whether it's themselves, a specific group, or the general public on platforms like Medium. The prompt emphasizes the importance of understanding whom you write for, as it helps in directing the content's focus and resonating with readers. The author of the challenge shares personal insight, revealing that they write to teach and share knowledge with juniors and colleagues, aiming to save others time by imparting life lessons and technical information. A link to a related article titled "Why Do You Write?" is provided, which discusses the motivations behind writing that go beyond financial gain. The rules for the 30-day challenge are outlined in another linked article, inviting writers to engage in a month-long journey of daily writing and sharing.

Opinions

  • The author writes with the intention to educate their juniors and co-workers.
  • Writing for a specific audience helps in crafting content that resonates with readers.
  • Not all writing needs to be motivated by money; personal fulfillment and the desire to share knowledge are also valid reasons.
  • The act of writing can be a means of offloading ideas from one's mind or teaching others.
  • The author believes that having an audience in mind is beneficial for directing one's writing energy and experimenting with content.

Hello and welcome!

Here is the first prompt in our April 2023 (30-day) Writing Challenge. (rules link at the end)

Day 01 Prompt Topic — Whom do you write for? Not just why…

Who is your audience?

Some people write for themselves ONLY to get their ideas off their heads, some write to teach others, some write as a career for their clients, and some write here on Medium without any specific audience in mind.

No specific path is correct, but having an audience in mind is helpful to direct your energies in experimenting and identifying what resonates with your readers.

I personally write to teach — my readers are my juniors and my co-workers. I write to share the life lessons (or techie stuff) so others don’t need to spend the same amount of time figuring it out!

The why is intertwined here too, and I wrote about it here…

So share your thoughts — who do you write for and why?
