April 2023 Writing Challenge
30 days, 30 posts
April is Camp NanoWriMo — a month-long opportunity to write that bestseller you’ve been thinking about for ages.
In honor of this writing adventure, here is another writing challenge to help you get started. My challenge is not affiliated with the original CampNanoWrimo at all. Instead, I hope to help you build a daily writing habit and possibly put those words on paper!
Rules of the Challenge
- 30 blog posts for April. You decide whether it is one a day, in batches, or randomly whenever you have time. Many of us hold full-time jobs and have family/travel commitments.
- Each post has to be a minimum of 500 words.
500 words x 30 posts = 15,000 words. If you complete this challenge, you’d have a 15,000-word book at the end of the month. Not a full-length epic novel, but commendable nevertheless. Plus, this might get you into the habit of writing daily and who knows? It might spur you to continue writing every day for the next few months until the next you are ready with the world’s next bestseller!
Challenge Pathways
For the content in the posts, you can follow one of two paths:
- If you have a book idea (fiction or non-fiction), create a 30-day plan starting with outlines, develop main characters (or topics), and then flesh out chapters as you dig deeper. For detailed plans, sign up for Shaunta Grimes “blog a book” program here. I published my book “Leadership for Women” using this type of pathway.
2. Follow my prompts for each of the 30 days. I’ll post one item every day. I tried a 100-day writing challenge for 80+ days and my income, views, and follower count skyrocketed.
3. Write on a topic of your choice for each of the 30 days. If you want to get a headstart but struggling with a bit of writer’s block, then take a look at this list of writing topics categorized by themes and events.
Irrespective of the path, be sure to add the term CampNanoWriMoChallenge as a tag on Medium and comment on my posts with a link to your post for that day. Commenting will help me look at your work and clap/share/engage with you, even if you are planning to write in bursts (rather than every day).
Let’s get started. All the best!
