# 1 Things to remember and practice when you strive to overcome depressive thoughts

Can you agree with this:

- Every human is an arsenal of feeling, thoughts, ideas

- Every human is special and unique — no one is exactly like you

- Every human has many traits in common with other humans

- Every human needs to be able to stand independently on her own feet

- Every human needs other humans. No one should be lonely and alone all the time

Does this apply for you (partly or completely)?

You feel down (sometimes/many times?)

You are depressed

You are subject to burnout

You are tired, you lack energy, strength in the daily life

You feel lonely, you feel you are too much alone

You have creative resources inside of you

You have ideas

You want to live a rich life

You know you have things to give to the world

Let me tell you a secret:

If you agree and feel like this, you are a bit like me.

Yes, I also feel down and I also some days wander down there in a gray valley of shadows.

So, what do I do to fight these negative forces?

I move.

I move my body and my mind.

I force myself up and out from the dark and closed room.

I listen to what’s inside of me. I become ideas. And I write. I take notes, I write down words to remember ideas that come into my head. I put words on how I feel, on what I experience. I put words on my dreams and hopes.

And I try to describe the present, the reality I live in, the world where I live.

The magic is that when doing this, when writing I sometimes see what I have written, and I say to myself:

So, this is what it is. So that’s it, okay!

Sometimes that is enough. I am finished with my dark thoughts. I am finished for now. I know it’s a passage, a temporary moment.

— Yes, I know there will be new dark moments, but that does not scare me any longer.

How can you do yourself a favour through writing?

This post is the first in my new project about writing. I want to find out what writing can do for us, how writing can be a tool for self-development and creativity.

How can you use writing as a creative power?

How can you become a better writer?

How can you help yourself to a better life through writing?

In this project I want to show you

How to free yourself from passivity and start moving.

How to use writing to find ways to live the life you want to live.

Writing as a creative power that can make you stronger, more free, more purposeful.

Writing as a tool that helps you take control of your reality, your life.

The main target groups for this writing project are

  1. young people
  2. adults in a stressing work and family situation
  3. older people

My first writing tips to you:

Start writing a journal,

a private journal that can help you become aware of yourself, your challenges and your strong personal resources.

Write where it is easy to write

on the phone

in a small notebook

always keep with you the possibility to write down words that help you remember writing ideas for later!

on your computer or iPad

Write

with paper and pencil

in Numbers/Excel (journal? memory list?)

in Pages/Word

in Notes

Write

- whenever you need to write

- as much or as little as you feel you need

- and play with the language, with words and sounds

- about all that matters (and also what doesn’t matter!)

Keep record of your writings

make a system so that you later can find your notes and texts

Do you have an inner voice that tells you ugly things about yourself? Kill it!

Depressed

Some days I feel down. I am at the bottom. I need help! But I know: Only I can help myself. I can - play with words - write what is just now - write what is not possible now, but should be - write feelings that dominate now - write feelings that I’d wish could be present in me now

Writing challenge #1

Write down notes for an answer to one or more of the following questions:

What is difficult for you just now?

What is between you and happiness?

What prevents you from feeling well in life?
