Welcome to Letters to Live By ✉, a publication that features personal and intimate letters in both English and Spanish — this publication seeks to praise the act of letter writing and emphasizes the emotional connection found in the creative process.

Cork Street, Tuesday morn (August, 1796).

My dear Cassandra, — Here I am once more in this scene of dissipation and vice, and I begin already to find my morals corrupted. We reached Staines yesterday, I do not (know) when, without suffering so much from the heat as I had hoped to do. We set off again this morning at seven o’clock, and had a very pleasant drive, as the morning was cloudy and perfectly cool. I came all the way in the chaise from Hertford Bridge.

Edward and Frank are both gone out to seek their fortunes; the latter is to return soon and help us seek ours. The former we shall never see again. We are to be at Astley’s to-night, which I am glad of. Edward has heard from Henry this morning. He has not been at the races at all, unless his driving Miss Pearson over to Rowling one day can be so called. We shall find him there on Thursday.

I hope you are all alive after our melancholy parting yesterday, and that you pursued your intended avocation with success. God bless you! I must leave off, for we are going out.

✉ How to submit your draft

· Submit a polished draft — make sure it is proofread for errors. I will not edit your content, so try to send a very revised version. · Lyrical and soulful letters are appreciated. · Letters can cover any subject/theme (diary entries, journaling letters, letters exploring love and death…) and can be written in any form (you can include poems, humorous anecdotes…). I guess it goes without saying that racist, sexist, or otherwise disrespectful content is ruled out. · Writings should be written in the first person and addressed to a person or element (the sun, the breeze of a cold morning, the mirror of your home, and so on), whether real or imaginary. · AI-generated submissions will not be accepted. · It would be great if you could include “Letters to Live By” as one of your five tags, but the use of it is not mandatory. · However, in order to classify the letters published here, one of the tags must be “Letters in English” if your letter is written in English, while if you write it in Spanish, use “Letters in Spanish”. Furthermore, if you would like to create a letter to a writer, you can submit it with the tag “Letters to Writers”. · Please, do not insert emojis anywhere in your letter. · Limit self-promotion to one box link per post and, if you wish to promote your website/social media, limit it to three lines of text (no more). · Use only one or two black and white photographs per letter, no more, and add the proper image attribution. If you prefer, you can contribute your own photographs, but also in black and white. · Once you have your draft ready, click on the three dots, choose “Add to publication” and select “Letters to Live By”. Escribe todo lo que te nace. · No cabe duda de que accederé a tu usuario de Medium para leer tus escritos y conocerte, así, un poco mejor.

✉ Cómo hacer llegar el borrador

· Envía un borrador pulido —no editaré el contenido recibido, por lo que intenta, por favor, enviar una versión muy revisada. · Se aprecian los escritos líricos y conmovedores. · Las cartas pueden cubrir cualquier tema (por ejemplo, las que exploran el amor y la muerte) y pueden estar escritas de cualquier forma (puedes incluir poemas, anécdotas humorísticas…). Supongo que no hace falta decir que quedan descartados los contenidos racistas, sexistas o irrespetuosos por cualquier otro motivo. · Los escritos deben estar redactados en primera persona y dirigidos a una persona o elemento (el sol, la brisa en una mañana fría, el espejo en el cual se refleja tu rostro…), ya sea real o imaginario. · No se aceptarán envíos generados por IA. · Sería maravilloso que incluyeras “Letters to Live By” como una de tus cinco etiquetas, pero su uso no es obligatorio. · En cambio, para poder clasificar las cartas publicadas aquí, sí es necesario que una de las etiquetas se corresponda con “Letters in English”, si tu carta está escrita en inglés, mientras que si la escribes en español, usa “Letters in Spanish”.
