Flutter two hearts with one look

“Knowledge is the source of wealth. Applied to tasks we already know, it becomes productivity. Applied to tasks that are new, it becomes innovation.” — Peter Drucker

Discovering little productivity tricks is like coming upon a field decorated and dotted with colorful wildflowers. As writers, we appreciate to see the beauty of our writing spread and multiply like wildflowers, as we can impart our thoughts and ideas with as many readers across the world as possible.

To me, writing a great article and being able to share it on various platforms is the clever way to eat my cake and have it, too, as the proverb that is over 470 years old goes. Although we all understand the concept of eating something and then not having it anymore, or as the Roman playwright Plautus wrote, “Non tibi illud apparere si sumas potest” in 194 BC that would mean: “If you spend a thing, you cannot have it,” we look for ways to double dip our chip when no one is looking.

I’m kidding, or course! Don’t double dip your chip, but double publish your writing clip!

Repurpose and republish some of your best articles

“Over the long run, the unglamorous habit of frequency fosters both productivity and creativity.” — Gretchen Rubin

I love creating and writing new material, but I also intend to give new life to older articles, stories, and poetry that can reach a new audience.

I fully agree with Cathy Fyok, who pointed out in her article Repurposing Writing to Grow Your Business and Career that “there’s no reason that intellectual property can’t be repackaged for many different media, like speaking, writing, training, consulting, coaching, and so on. If you can create the content for a major presentation, for example, you can reuse that content for a post on LinkedIn, an article in your professional journal or trade publication, or rewrite it as a component of your book.”

Although I always knew the value of repackaged ideas and writing, I only recently started to do it after I published my first article on Newsbreak, which was an original, but then I had it published Five Simple Ways to Make Instant Friends | by CARMEN F MICSA | Coffee Times | Mar, 2022 | Medium by the wonderful Coffee Times Medium publication with this disclaimer at the end of the article.

This story has first appeared on Newsbreak under the title Making friends with humans and animals — a universal language that we all understand.

As you can see, the article has two completely different titles for two reasons:

  1. Newsbreak does not like any titles that can remotely be click bait, so Five Simple Ways to Make Instant Friends got a big flag next to it, which was my main reason to change it.
  2. To infuse new life and meaning into the article. By selecting a different title, the small revisions, additions, rewritings I made felt natural and smooth.

Sharing a similar content on Medium and Newsbreak

“Words need to be sown like seeds. No matter how tiny a seed may be, when in lands in the right sort of ground it unfolds its strength and from being minute expands and grows to a massive size.” — Seneca

Seneca was absolutely right! Our words are seeds that can easily be planted on Medium and Newsbreak with a major title change and small article tweaks. And although some content might not be interchangeable, we can look for ways to bring our ideas to life on various platforms to reach different audiences.

Another important consideration when sharing is the fact that Newsbreak requires a more neutral and journalistic style backed-up by research and quotes. However, I still managed to weave in personal stories and even one of my poems in one of them.

The big surprise about Newsbreak was having my Five Ways to Curate Serendipity article first published by Mind Cafe with more than 44K impressions that keep growing every day. As you notice, the Newsbreak title is A trip to Montana made me rethink serendipity. Titles on Newsbreak follow the AP style and not every word is capitalized.

And last, but not least, keep on writing, creating, and repurposing while crafting clever and true titles that will deliver what your readers thought they would receive. Don’t make egregious promises that you can’t keep!

Happy writing and happy sharing ideas across platforms!
