Write A Letter To Your Future Self And See It Change Your Life Forever
Send yourself a message that’d help more than anything else.

In 2016, I wrote a letter to myself.
My life was going through a lot of changes — good and bad. I was starting to understand myself better. I felt I was on a great journey of self-improvement and growth.
I didn’t want it to stop or lose track of it.
So, I wrote a letter to my future self. A letter that’ll come to me every year during my birthday.
Fast forward a year, I was in a completely different place. I got married by then and moved to a different country. I entered a new company in a senior role.
Yet I was feeling a bit lost.
Then came my birthday and I received that letter. I forgot about it and was very excited to read it. To see if the message was still relevant.
And this is how it went —
I got reminded of my goals
In 2016, I created a set of goals for my personal growth, career, health, mind, and spirituality.
I was way off when I checked the letter in 2017. I kind of feel ashamed.
But I also felt determined to start again the next day. And I did.
I realized how most problems can be solved with time
I got carried away with some problems in 2016.
Reading about them in 2017 made me smile. None of them even mattered anymore.
Within a year my life changed. Within that year, those problems vanished into oblivion. Time healed everything.
I learned that day that no matter how big a problem is, a little patience can make that better.
I understood what habits I’d need to make
Although in 2016 I created a detailed plan for my future, I didn’t have the habits to support those plans.
Without habits, plans are just dreams.
I realized that I was off from my target because of the lack of habits. That letter forced me to start creating habits that’d get me where I want to be.
I reconnected with my younger self
Somehow, I felt the year between melted away.
I could think like my younger self and see his motivations. I could get into that mindset and reinvigorate myself.
In a way through that letter, I created a sort of time-traveling mechanism.
Final thoughts
Write a letter to yourself today.
Maybe you should receive it on your birthday with your plans. Or on the new year with resolutions. Either way, it will keep you grounded, focused, and make you feel good.
Your goals, habits, and problems can all get benefited from this simple yet powerful move.
