WHAT BOF LEFT OUT
Wouldn’t an Intern on a Pirate Ship Wear a Red Shirt?
Notes from the Muddy meeting of 6 June 2022

Susan Brearley missed the meeting; she was driving home from her June 5 college graduation. Congrats, Cap’n!
We semiefficiently held 3 meetings in the spacetime of 1.5. Nanci Arvizu began recording about 25 minutes in.
First up was a discussion of interns, of whom at least one has started already.
So far, only Mudditors involved in the “hiring” process — Susan, Toni Crowe, and Andrew Rodwin, then Amy Sea and Sara Zadrima as Mudditorial Intern Concierges — have met Jadyn Mardy, Allison E Peteka, and Sanne Touloukian. All but one will be part-time.
Toni talked about the interns’ weekly tasks document, which she recently updated with specifics.
By the end of their recent group meeting, the concierges reported that the interns seemed excited to be on point for their own areas of expertise, such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Another intern candidate, Rui Bai, was MIA; the Cap’n will follow up.
Amy has no patience with “attitude” but I didn’t note what prompted that remark. I look forward to meeting our interns soon via Zoom.
Next came Andrew’s screen-sharing event.
I’m technologically challenged, so he kindly messaged me a link to Muddy’s shared Google Drive. It has folders! — Anthology — Art — Interns — Mudditors — MuddyUm Video Audio — Stats
Whether I’ll be able to find and use the drive appropriately by myself is unknown.
- Andrew will change social media passwords after this batch of interns complete their term of servitude to our whims and desires
- Toni: “Hope is not a strategy.” I thought — but didn’t say — yes, like “wishful recycling”
- Amy thinks we need a replacement term for “popping the cherry.” My contribution was “someone had to make up every word sometime”
- Mullets. How did mullets and cherry-popping arise in our conversation? I believe it also was Amy who quoted “business in the front and party in the back”
On a serious note, RE apportioning the Daily Muddy Funny aka DMF burden so Gary Chapin can spend more quality time with his accordions: Amy, Toni, and Andrew are rotating in.
I resolved to be better at posting DMF suggestions in #twitterfolks on Slack. The 🔒funny-stuff-we-found channel is for nonMuddy newsletter 3+1 suggestions. Its description mysteriously references our 4/18/22 meeting.
That concluded our official Monday morning Muddy Zoom.
¹ ICYW, “Red Shirt” in the title is a Good Ship Enterprise reference.
But I stayed on for Amy & Nanci’s postmeeting chat about recording audio.
Amy uses Rev; she said Gary noticed her recent recording included buzzing. Nanci suggested moving closer to the mic. She recommends recording oneself in either a closet or a car, without a headset.
I asked for clarification on what Nanci said in a previous meeting RE how to recover if you mess up while recording. Does she send Gary one audio file or multiple files? Answer: ONE. She pauses, then backs up and rerecords at the sentence level as needed.
I remain interested in making sound effects, if or when that’s needed.
Our shared Google Drive now allows Nanci to create story-specific folders containing images, image credits, and audio to accompany her story words. Gary takes it from there!
In notes from a previous meeting, I found this possibly inspirational for interns interlude. David Perlmutter, did you miss highlighting my notes stories?

Vive la différence
BOFace’s notes, avoiding mention of anything serious, are below — illustrated by a big green CENSORED picture. Perhaps “censored” is because Paul said fucking & sucking in our meeting, which Toni promptly repeated. With aplomb.
The F-word flies freely, like carpet bombing, in our meetings. No one minds, including me, but I was in the 🚾 head when the F-bomb genes were passed out.
Though I rarely miss a Muddy meeting, I’ve been on hiatus from reporting on them since January. Why? Could it be too much business and not enough laughter? Nah!
