Words That Reach
A poem on words of hope
Those words mean a lot more to me than you’d think. Or maybe you know exactly what they mean to me And you say them to pull me out of the depths of despair I seem to freely always sink back into.
You say them so often you’d think They’d have lost their meaning, but no, They retain every mile of their impact And I’m deeply moved by the way You’ve stayed by my side to repeat them for me When I forget that you mean them.
Those are words that reach out to me when I’m miles away from civilization, They grip my heart and shake it relentlessly- A wrenching ache lingers like the taste of blood And stings like a long-second burn. Those are the words that tug at my very existence.
Those are the words I’d been waiting my entire life to hear.
And now that I get to hear them as breaths from your lips,
I want to stay for as long as you believe in them,
And as long as I live.
