Women in Gaza are bleeding…
Amid the conflict in Israel, women in Gaza use period-delaying pills due to a lack of privacy and clean water.
The situation in Gaza is getting worse every day, especially for women and children. Women in Gaza are facing a lot of difficulties. They don’t have safe places to go to, and the conditions for cleanliness and hygiene are getting worse. According to a recent report from Unicef, women are experiencing a severe menstrual crisis.
Menstrual Hygiene
Because of the terrible and unclean conditions in Gaza, many women are taking pills to delay their periods. They are dealing with displacement, overcrowding, and a lack of access to water and menstrual hygiene products. They are using norethisterone tablets, which are usually prescribed for period problems.
A doctor in Gaza explains that these tablets help prevent the uterus from shedding its lining, which delays menstruation. Some women are using these pills to avoid embarrassment and shame because they can’t maintain proper hygiene or get necessary health products.
Taking pills to delay their periods
Many displaced women in Gaza are suffering physically and mentally due to the stress of the past few weeks. The displacement of many people has caused chaos for everyone in Gaza, and it’s even harder for women who are menstruating. Pharmacies and stores are running out of supplies because of the blockade enforced by Israel.
However, these pills could impact a woman’s regular hormonal fluctuations and side effects like irregular bleeding, nausea, changes in the menstrual cycle, dizziness, and mood swings. Women in Gaza say they have no other option due to the ongoing conflict and blockade by the Israeli army.

Without proper sanitary items, the women are forced to use alternatives which can lead to infections and discomfort. The need for menstrual hygiene is dire in Gaza and for women’s health.
