PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE
Within Two Days From Heating to Aircon
Week 146 of the photographic documentary of my daily life
Yes, it got warm finally. Finally, the rain stopped, the clouds vanished and the sun came out. While we still experienced frost at the beginning of the week, we received sunshine and warm weather over the weekend.
It was still a bit windy but it was the first week this year where we could work 6 days in a row. Yes, it was tiring but we were happy. And toward the end of the week, we even had reason to celebrate.
I had started training students on Monday and after two days of bad weather, we could finally get them up in the air. It was still cold but sunny at least and I was happy to fly my new canopy.

My dad had brought us lots of onion and garlic from last year’s harvest but a few days ago when I looked into the basket, I saw that some of them had become squishy. They were growing out with tiny green sprouts appearing already.
Instead of throwing them away, I decided to simply plant them next to our tomato plants and eat them as spring onions a few weeks from now.
So far, they are looking great!

While it was too windy to get the students up in the air on Saturday, we had a busy day as we were one instructor short on the tandem operation. I ended up doing 10 jumps in total and was certainly tired in the end. Not so much for the number of jumps I did but because of the strong winds we had to deal with. That requires so much more concentration and effort to land every tandem safely (and still be filming the passenger).

Sunday was another sunny but windy day. And while the day wasn’t as busy as Saturday, we still got each 7 jumps in. All was going well until I received two rejections at the end of the day.
The girl that was supposed to jump with me went to the office saying she doesn’t want to jump with a woman. The office girl then switched around the load and assigned me another woman.
When I introduced myself, the lady had no shame saying
“Am I jumping with a woman? If I would jump with a man, I’d trust him more. How many jumps do you even have?”
All of that without stopping once to catch a breath. I sighed. It wasn’t the first time I heard something like that. But it was now the second one in a row and I was not going to give in.
I stood my ground. I explained myself. I said I had the same qualifications as my husband and the other instructor. I told her I knew what I was doing and that I will be able to land her safely.
While I was a bit annoyed by the situation, I convinced the woman quite quickly that she could trust me. The rest of the crew was incredibly upset about the situation. How these women rejected me as a female. Understandable. But that is the world we live in. I’m used to this kind of rejection in this sport.

The next day was a Monday and while we usually don’t work on Mondays, we did one special jump for a birthday celebration of someone out of the region.
After the working jump, we went back to our trailer and had a barbecue. It was such a warm and sunny day, the first ones switched on their aircon in the trailers. Two days after we had last switched on the heater in ours.
And since I was talking about celebration. It was our third wedding anniversary. We had a great evening with our colleagues.

And look at that. While no more deer are walking past our game viewing window, countless brown hares are hopping instead across the freshly cut meadow.

And today I decided to go for a walk during sunset. I first walked around the forest behind our trailer park, then walked at the edge of the fields and returned crossing the woods once again.
In total, I saw 4 deer of which two of them I managed to capture. The one below was the last one. The sun had long gone and the deer made no effort to escape. I’m sure it was convinced I couldn’t see her.

This has been my week in photographs. 7 days. 7 photographs. Anyone can join. Once. Or weekly. It doesn’t matter. We welcome everyone! Dennett started this photography challenge in 2020 and many have participated ever since.
