With All The Craziness And Uncertainty In The World, All You Have To Do Is Believe In Yourself

I’ve been stressing out lately, I have a big presentation I have to give at work. I hate big crowds and public speaking so I’ve been putting it off till the last minute.

As I sat there worrying there was a knock at the door, it was my friends.

“Yo dude, we’re going to the movies, you wanna go?” Steve asked

“I can’t, I have to work on this presentation for work tomorrow. I’m worried, I don’t know if I can do it.”

“Why not?” asked Arthur

“I’m not good at public speaking, I’m going to look like an idiot. I already think they don’t like me there, if I mess this up they might fire me.”

“Screw ’em, let’s go, I heard this movie is really good, they show boobs,” Steve said

“No man, I need this job, and I like working there, that’s part of the reason I’m stressing, I don’t want them to think I suck at my job.”

“We can help you prepare,” Arthur said

“We?” Asked Steve “I’m way too high to do a presentation right now.”

“Of course you are, when are you not high?” Arthur said

“Guys, I can’t deal with this right now, just go without me.”

“You mean just the two of us?” Steve and Arthur gave each other an uncomfortable look. “Okay, I guess we’ll help you.”

“Alright, great” Arther rubbed his hands together excitedly, this was the kind of nerdy stuff he lives for. “The key to confidence when speaking is to know exactly what you are talking about, down to the last detail. This will take hours of hard work.”

“Umm, hours? But then we’ll miss the movie, dude, just write down the key points and improvise the rest, you got this.” Steve said

That defiantly didn’t seem like a good idea, but the thought of spending the rest of the night poring over graphs and spreadsheets didn’t sound good either.

“I appreciate your help, but I think ill just do it myself”

“Nonsense, we’re here for the long hall, we got your back,” Arthur said

“Dude, I think you’re good man, you’re smart and people like you, you’ve been doing this for years, you know what you’re doing right?” Steve said

“Well yeah, I’m the head of the department.”

“So act like it dude, If you believe in yourself others will listen and believe too,” Steve said

“But what if they don’t?”

“Then you can answer their questions because you know more about this stuff than they do.”

I looked to Arthur, he gave me a reassuring head nod, “He’s right, for once.”

“Thanks, dude,” Steve said with a sarcastic tone.

I started to feel better instantly, they were right, I know this stuff better than anyone. My fear was just from the fact that I had to say it in front of a bunch of people. But as long as I know what I’m talking about and answer their questions honestly I have nothing to worry about.

“Maybe you guys are right.”

“Of course we are, your the smartest one in our group” Steve said

“Ha, no he isn’t,” Arthur said

“Dude” Steve gave him a dirty look

“I mean yeah, you got this, just believe in yourself.”

“Thanks, guys, maybe I will go to the movie.”

“Cool, you want to get high first?” Steve asked

“I’m good, but thanks anyway”

Steve shrugged his shoulders and the three of us piled into Arthur’s car and made our way to the movies. My friends drive me crazy sometimes but they’re always there for me. If only I believed in myself as much as they believed in me.
