With a Swagger and a Dagger: Thorne Frostgale
A “Primatria” roleplaying character that’s… not a total noob
This article is about a character for a fantasy roleplaying game hosted right here on Medium.
If you haven’t seen it, Primatria (a.k.a. ‘Medium Adventurers League’) is a set of stories here on Medium that function a bit like a one-player version of a fantasy roleplaying game. There are loads of multi-part quests and other resources dreamed up by Jay C Wells, Bradan Writes Stories, Sieran Lane, and Jonathon Sawyer, as well as myself.

But if you’d rather skip the starter and go straight to the main course, here’s a character that’s ready to move on to one of the medium-level bases, and tricker quests.
Character Backstory
Thorne Frostgale grew up in a small village on the rain-lashed west coast of Primatria. His father, seeking work, moved to the small but lively town of Westport when Thorne was a 14-year-old boy.
Thorne largely bypassed education, but spent a lot of time reading at the library when he wasn’t earning a few coins via odd jobs down at the docks.
Even when times were tough, he was blessed with confidence that never seemed to waver. After a few years, he told his dad and neighbors that the time had come for him to seek adventure. “There’s monsters to slay, treasure to be won,” he said, “and who better to do it than me?”

Thorne’s Quests (so far)
Thorne successfully completed all of the early-level quests available at the starter league headquarters and burnished his reputation in the process. He was willing to bend the rules and take shortcuts occasionally, but his heart being in the right place, he always tried to do what was right.
Along the way, Thorne made an ally when rescuing Queen Arriana from the goblins. He also gained useful training from Tempest and the monks of Mediana — choosing the earth path, though he didn’t cover himself with glory with Perion at the fighting pits, and has tended to sell off weapons besides his prized silver dagger.
Now, after discussion with Yorrick, Thorne has realized that the time has come to move on to the next level, travelling to The Bastion and to a new headquarters…
