Winter Is Dying. Here’s Why I’m Scared

The Climate Crisis Scares Me

It’s hot. It’s just so goddamn hot.

There’s sweat trickling down my brow and a hot salty pool in the small of my back. My legs search the bed for the cool spots, but there are none. I can feel myself getting irritated and annoyed. It’s November and there should be frost, cold winds and snow. But there’s not. Instead, there’s sunshine and more sunshine and people are happy.

“Isn’t it lovely!” they say. “Such nice weather for the time of year.” And, “It’s so nice to be sitting outside in the sunshine, we better make the most of it while we can!”

“Argh!” I want to scream.

I want to give them a quick, sharp slap across their face to get their undivided attention and then take them by the shoulders and shake them violently whilst simultaneously shouting, “Wake up, you bloody idiot!” “This is Global F***ing Warming! It’s not going to end. This is the new normal. It’s not a good thing.”

“Have you forgotten we’ve just been through the hottest summer on record?” I want to ask.

Did you sleep through the drought and the wildfires? The national emergencies declared, and the aid given to farmers who lost their crops? Did you miss the price increases because of crop shortages and no, it wasn’t just the Ukraine war. Prices were increasing and crops were failing way before that. Have you forgotten how all the plants started to bloom early last year because of the warm weather and how frosts killed off many of them?

Did you miss the part where vineyard owners were forced to take extreme measures to protect early sprouting vines? Like lighting thousands of oil lamps to keep the vines warm, deploying helicopters to shift the air or freezing vines to try to preserve them?

Or is your brain so full of Black Friday deals and throwaway fashion that you can’t see the truck that is about to flatten you?

PERMANENT CUPS

I can’t blame you. Why would you consider things like this when they have been so neatly swept under the carpet, denied and ignored by the fat cats with their heads up their arses and enough money not to care. It’s easy to understand your lack of concern when you have newly appointed ministers for the environment like Therese Coffey of the UK who plan to tackle global warming by ensuring we all have “permanent”cups.

“Permanent cups!” Way to go Therese that’s really going to solve the problem of climate migration, rising prices, crop shortages and extreme weather.

It’s easy to see why Black Friday is more appealing than saving the planet. Black Friday is so much easier to deal with and anyway, who cares? You won’t be around long enough to see all the problems.

NAPOLEON SPEAKS

Napoleon said,

I’m not a lion. I wish I was, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t stand behind a lion.

I want Greta Thunberg to come back and lead us out of the darkness. I’m ready to march behind her armed with my frying pan. I’ve already thought of 2 ways I can use it:

Option 1, use it to beat some sense into the fat cat politicians to help them to switch priorities from money to life. Option 2: Heat it up and when it’s nice and hot, put their hand on it so they can understand just how bloody hot it is going to get.

Some of you are going to hate me for saying that because it’s not a nice thing to want to do. But, I really think we’ve gone past the stage of being nice and sitting down for tea and biscuits.

We need action and we need it now. I know it’s hard. We don’t know what to do.

There are people with some good ideas. Take the Dutch students who grew a biodegradable car or the Dutch company that produced Lightyear one, a solar powered car that can go 710k and A group of students from Eindhoven University of Technology has developed a zero emission environment-friendly car that filters the air during rides.Then there’s the myriad of websites where you’ve got all these incredible energy ideas and clever projects.

If the powers that be could just stop blowing everyone up, that would solve a major problem because weapons and missiles do so much damage to the climate. America doesn’t want you to know that because it’s the major supplier of weapons of mass destruction.

Europe is heating up faster than expected because it’s a land mass. This is devastating countries. Take Bulgaria, a country known for its agriculture. Farmers have been advised to plant bananas because it is getting so hot. Italy now has vines growing on the mountains, something they could never do before, and Norway has become a wine-producing region. This is just a small selection of the massive changes that are going on.

We’ve gotta Find A Way to work together.

We’ve gotta stop relying on fossil fuel energy.

Stop buying cheap, throw-away clothes and stop killing one another.

We need to sit down and plan for the future. Have uncomfortable conversations and discuss the important topics, like where are all the climate migrants going to go?

How are we going to feed everybody and how are we going to live in the increasing heat?
