Summary

Chris and Sarah, a childless couple who have won two million euros in the lottery, plan to invest their winnings for their future but also decide to fulfill Sarah's dream of traveling to South Africa before doing so, while both harbor unexpressed desires influenced by a popular erotic novel they have read.

Abstract

Chris and Sarah, a couple who have accepted their childless fate, lead a modest life filled with their respective hobbies and jobs. Upon winning a substantial lottery prize, they are faced with the opportunity to dramatically change their financial future. While Chris immediately thinks of investing the money, Sarah expresses her long-held wish to travel to South Africa, a dream they could never afford before. Chris agrees, and their excitement for the trip leads to an intimate night that reflects their usual, satisfactory sex life. Unbeknownst to each other, both have been inspired by an erotic novel to fantasize about more adventurous sexual experiences, though they are hesitant to share these desires with one another. The story is a work of fiction, serving as a tribute to victims of air crashes, and is part of a serial fiction series titled "Shadows of Mayday."

Opinions

  • The couple's decision to keep their lottery winnings private is influenced by cautionary tales of friends and family making unreasonable demands after learning of sudden wealth.
  • Sarah's desire for a trip to South Africa indicates a sense of adventure and a wish to experience something beyond their usual lifestyle, which Chris supports.
  • Both Chris and Sarah are content with their current sex life but are intrigued by the idea of exploring more unconventional sexual practices inspired by a popular novel, though they are apprehensive about sharing these fantasies.
  • The author uses the characters' internal monologues to convey their hidden desires and the impact of fiction on their real-life aspirations.
  • The story emphasizes the importance of communication in a relationship, as both characters have unspoken yearnings that could potentially enrich their lives if shared and explored together.

Winning the Lottery Opened a Million Opportunities

Shadows Of Mayday #21: Chris and Sarah #1: With more money than they ever had before, the couple treated themselves

They stared at each other. What? Did they really hear it right? Two million? Two million euros?

“Congratulations,” the cigarette shop owner said again, “you’ve won two million euros in the national lottery.”

Chris and Sarah couldn’t begin to imagine how much money that was or what they could do with it. They were the only customers in the shop at that moment, but even so, the owner had taken them to the far corner of the shop. He was discreet about their prize.

“Just a word of advice,” he said, “tell no one about your winnings. I’ve heard horror stories about friends, family, companies and sometimes even complete strangers making a nuisance of themselves when they hear about a prize like this.”

Chris nodded. He had heard the same and planned not to tell anyone. By now, his mind already worked overtime.

There are so many ways I can invest this money. Sara and I will have a nest egg for later.

Still dazed, they returned home.

Chris and Sarah had no children. In the beginning of their marriage, they tried for Sarah to get pregnant, but when years into their marriage they were still childless, they gave up.

They had talked about it on various occasions, whether they should go to the doctor and try to find out why Sarah couldn’t conceive. Eventually, they decided that neither of them wanted to have the medical rigmarole it would cause. If they were meant to have kids, Sarah would have conceived. Since she didn’t, they accepted they would stay childless. That was the firm belief they lived by, and it helped them to accept their fate.

Chris and Sarah filled their lives with their work and hobbies. Chris worked as a car mechanic on the other side of town, and Sarah was a nurse at the local hospital. They both earned a moderate salary and besides their jobs, both kept busy with a hobby.

Chris collected stamps and frequently went to trade shows to sell, buy, and exchange stamps.

Sarah visited the crafts club once a week. She used one room in their house as her workroom, where she had an easel and canvases, and different materials to create whatever her heart desired.

“What shall we do with the money?” Sarah asked.

“I want to invest it,” Chris said. “If we invest it, we will have money for our old age.”

“Yes,” Sarah said, “that’s true.”

She stared at the tablecloth and traced the lines of the pattern on it with her finger.

“Spill it, puppet!” Chris said, using his pet name for her. He knew that face, the one she always put up when she had something on her mind.

“I would love to make a trip. We’ve never had money for a trip overseas. We’ve never been on a proper holiday. I don’t mind if you invest the money, but please, can we make a trip first?”

The words spilled from her mouth in staccato tempo because she didn’t want Chris to deny her this opportunity.

“Where do you want to go?” Chris asked.

“South Africa,” Sarah answered in a small voice.

“Okay.”

“But, I really want to…” Sarah protested and then realized that Chris had agreed. She stopped and stared at him.

“You mean we can go?” she asked.

“Yes, let’s book a vacation to South Africa. I think we deserve that, don’t you?”

Sarah was ecstatic with happiness. It had been a dream of her for so long to visit the beautiful country in the most southern tip of Africa, but they never had the money for it.

That evening, she started the search on the World Wide Web to find trips to South Africa.

By the time they went to bed, her excitement kept her from falling asleep. She told Chris about things she had found. Her excitement was contagious. Soon he rolled over towards her and kissed her.

Their lovemaking followed the same pattern it did for many years. First, they kissed and Chris fondled her breasts. Careful not to hurt her, he lightly kneaded the flesh of her breast in his hand. Next, his hand moved down to her crotch, pushing his hand into her pajama bottoms. He cupped her sex and then moved his hand up and down, rubbing her sex.

When he thought it was enough, he pushed his finger between her labia. By then she was wet. He pushed her pajama bottoms down, took off his own, and rolled over on top of her. Sarah kicked her pajama bottoms off and spread her legs for him, guiding him into her and holding onto his hips. Chris pushed in and out of her several times and when it sounded like she had an orgasm, he picked up the pace until he had his own.

Sarah didn’t always climax, but she didn’t know any better.

In fact, Sarah didn’t think she ever had a real climax. What she felt at times might be a climax, but she just didn’t know. Still, Sarah never had the feeling she was missing out on something. She was content with their sex life the way it was, and so was Chris.

Recently, Sarah had read a book about an unconventional love between a rich man and a virgin woman. The book had taken the world by storm and that made her curious to read it too.

The plot intrigued her.

It stirred up a strange longing in her loins, but the book was fiction and it was ridiculous to think that those things happened in real life. Chris would declare her a fool if she ever suggested for him to give her a spanking, like the dominant man in the book gave the young woman. That was the one scene in the book that left Sarah wet and panting.

Chris was just as content with his sex life as his wife was.

He had never told Sarah that when she went out to the craft club, he read the same book she did. Reading about how the man dominated that so-called innocent young woman gave him an erection. His favorite part of the book was where the man took the woman into his playroom and bound her wrists and ankles to the bed before he fucked her.

Chris would love to do that to Sarah. He imagined her helpless in front of him, while he did things to her she never imagined might happen.

However, he knew if he would tell Sarah about these dark desires, she would tell him to stop being silly and act like the adult he was.
