Wilted With Fear

#12 of 31 days of May SCWBI Challenge- A Short Story

Photo by Bobbie Wallace on Unsplash

It was past midnight. John was driving his car on the isolated road far away from the city. It was hard to find any traffic during day time here.On the both sides of road, there was a thick rows of trees.

John saw a dim light at a distance that suddenly brightened in a glow of high watt electric bulb. John was surprised and scared too because, there was no habitation in this area. Although he was extremely terrified rather almost petrified yet he wanted to verify the source of light.

But, the spot of light was not close to the road. Only the way that he had to stop his car and walk over there. He was feeling a bit safer inside the car. It was a challenge for him to muster double courage.

It was the peak of winter. John came out of his car. The cold callous currents of strong wind make him shiver, with the shocking harsh reality that he was actually trembling with fear inside. He started walking in the direction of the light.

There was no track or pathway only tall trees all around. After walking half a mile. He heard a chanting voice that was continuously increasing its pitch. He saw there many big and small rocks but no trees in about a mile periphery. And surprisingly, the glow of light was not as bright as it was from the distance.

To his utter surprise he saw a stark naked man sitting on a rock and something like a bright stone was kept in front of him on the another rock. He was furiously chanting something in a language that John had never heard.

John was wilted with fear. He fell down unconscious.
