Will your Emotional Bucket-Bottom Drop out In a Crisis?

Mine dropped. I’ll rebuild it with hope

Photo by Fa Barboza on Unsplash

I’ve been on my knees lately — literally and figuratively. The devastating events I’ve been seeing and hearing about happening in The United States are more than I can bear. For the most part, I’ve remained down on my knees.

How are you, dear people? Aren’t the recent events things of a different dystopian world? We are better than this. You are better than this, America. What happened?

Earlier today I published my thoughts on my personal website. Swing by if you can, but if you can’t here’s a snippet of a freestyle poem and words I shared with my audience there.

Spiraling

Sponging in on the chaotic atmosphere Picking up on all the hurt Hurting until it’s debilitating…

Spiraling me into despair Draining my energy well Incapacitating

I understand but I don’t understand. Stop it. Period!

On my radar, people are the biggest thing. When people hurt, I hurt. Today, I want to gush over a baby or go to a petting zoo. I need something transformative to happen, see the glass half full again.

Empaths and highly sensitive people (HSPs) are not the only ones feeling exhausted and overwhelmed in the present chaotic environment we’re confronting now. I’m miles away from it all, my television is turned off but through my short visits on social media I’ve already picked up so much. And for two weeks now, I cannot function, I-can’t-breathe.

Chokehold. Brute-force. Human tragedy… Failure is what the present leadership exudes.

Current events have superseded the 2020 pandemic which hasn’t run its course, a vaccine still pending. Is this yet another tasteless attempt to mock nature and instigate more wildfires? The world is watching — red and yellow, black and white — the world is hurting. People are people are people.

End that, now! Period!

The pulse of life feels different these days.

(article first published here on 4/12/2020)

…one day the bottom a-go drop out

“Every day the bucket a-go a well,” sang Bob Marley in his native Jamaican Creole, “one day the bottom a-go drop out.”

Bob sang about a man who shot the sheriff, referring to this man being under emotional duress. As a result, the bottom of the man’s bucket dropped out.

The analogy of a bucket, a receptacle that holds something, fits nicely into events happening today.

It also resonates with similar wise words from Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Picture a container deep within yourself out of which all your thoughts flow. Inside this container, at its very center, image a Candle flame. You need to make a commitment that this flame in the center of the container holding all of your thoughts will never ever even flicker although the very worst may go before you. This is your container of peace and only peaceful thoughts can fuel the burning candle. You don’t need to change your thoughts as much as you need to learn to be an energy of peace, lighting the way and attracting serene, harmonious thoughts and beings. In this way, you will become a being of peace. ~Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Take the state of this 2020 pandemic for example.

For years now we’ve been seeing with our own eyes how Nature’s bucket has been under duress. Think back to all those natural disasters. Plenty of signals there!

Well, the bottom of Nature’s bucket has dropped out and brought us what we’re living through in the first half of the year already.

We should have paid attention years ago. We could have warded off so much.

We didn’t. We weren’t ripe enough then. We ‘had’ all these fetters that bound us to an unawakened state.

We’re waking up now.

As the smartest, most enlightened humans ever slapped with a problem this size, we are more prepared than any other generation ever was. Ever! We have technology on our side. For sure we are light years ahead than our predecessors. Their medical advancements, though effective for the needs of their time, were nothing compared to ours today. Joining the dots in hindsight, those amazing humans who came before us, contributed to the technology and advancements that exist today. Let’s never forget.

Will we be able to do the same for our children too?

As the only ones capable of saving our planet we’ve come to embrace our role as the fixers of this problem. We’ve allowed it to go on for much too long so the challenge is enormous, but we must take it on even if it kills us.

The fascinating virtue this dropped bucket-bottom has brought us is awareness. Many of us are now dropping from our high places, like ripe fruit falling from trees. Now we’re paying attention, or at the very least, we’re listening.

“When we listen the crisis gets solved,” said the Swedish teenage climate activist.

“The climate crisis has already been solved.

We already have all the facts and solutions.

All we have to do is to wake up and change.” — Greta Thunberg.

This time that our existence is on the line, it’s fair to say that we’re doing our utmost to get this right.

As we soldier on in new solidarity, we’re filling up our buckets anew with novel ‘things’. These will be the buckets we’ll carry with us into the future.

Let’s be selective of the things we fill our buckets with. Let ours weigh heavy with compassion, action, and hope. And may these qualities see us through all the other crises that arise in our world.

More and more cases of inhumane treatment with immunity make headlines every day. This is very wrong!

Sensitive people around the world are at a loss. I know this because of late I cannot breathe. I cannot comprehend.

It had become so bad that I felt the bottom of my bucket drop out.

I know I’m not alone. Unless one’s living in a cloud, these embarrassing historical moments would go unnoticed.

Ache oozed out of me; I’m on the mend.

The situation persists. Who are these people? Can anyone hold them accountable? I pray with ardor every day. Do the right thing, please. Stop it. Period.
