AI vs HI
Will AI win over HI
It may depend on where you’re standing

Confession: I’m a writer on Medium and an editor for Dancing Elephant Press. I DO NOT USE AI to write any of my stories. They are all produced using human intelligence.
First, Let’s Talk about AI
Today (1–16–2024), Warren Brown threw down the gauntlet when he asked “Who would win, AI or HI.”
My question is, “What?” It would be easy to obfuscate the real issue while talking about how AI is involved in so many industries and solutions that we use daily. Are we against them?
Yes and NO (my point of view)
Like so many of us, I can’t control everything. Just like the serenity prayer states:
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”.
As Warren points out, each of us is already using AI in so many different ways. It’s already hard to imagine our lives without the benefit of AI.
But…
There must be a check and balance for everything. At the moment, from where I’m standing, I’m not seeing that. Regulators are only beginning to design ways to control the use of AI. Think of every major advancement and the resulting growth. It almost caused as many problems as it solved. However, HI was used to design and control systems to ensure things like privacy.
A HARD NO
There’s a reason why this AI vs HI movement began. AI is leaping (at this point) into what was once the purview of creative men and women calling themselves writers on a platform we call Medium.
The pervasiveness of AI in stories has dumbed down the quality of writing that’s been present here on Medium and elsewhere for so long. Now, if a writer uses AI, and their story is read, they’ll receive money to compensate them for their work, thought, and time (not much).
Let’s control AI where we can, on and off the pages we write.
When it comes to writing, we’re asking that on Medium, you say NO to the use of AI in your stories. And that you do not read stories you believe to be AI-generated.
If a writer uses AI, are they writing from their heart and mind or from some desire to churn out a profit without using (much) intelligence?
One Person Can Make The Difference
That one person is YOU. Please believe me when I say You have the power to say NO to AI in your writing. Only YOU have that power and control.

Here are a few stories that you may have missed but are worth reading:
From Warren Brown comes the story that prompted the response above:
Maryan Pelland OnText.com offers this on the accuracy of AI
Those are just two of the articles that are now streaming into Dancing Elephant Press on this volatile topic.
