Call for Baby Wild Animal Stories and Photographs

Babies are some of the superstars of the animal kingdom. Whether humans, pets, or wild animals, babies captivate attention and even endear people to them. So, get your cameras ready, because the first-ever Wildlife Trekker monthly challenge, for June 2022, will feature stories and photos of baby wild animals. If you have a wild baby animal story to share, based on a personal encounter, please submit a draft between May 28, 2022, and June 29, 2022.

Challenge Guidelines

Please follow these guidelines when planning and writing your stories about baby wild animals:

  • Story and photos based on your personal encounter(s) with baby wild animals.
  • Stories can feature any type of animal, such as birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, invertebrates, and so on.
  • All stories and photos will feature animal encounters with live and non-captive baby animals (no zoo stories and photos, please).
  • Feature one or more photos of baby wild animals, all taken by you, or by someone who shared the encounter with you.
  • Feature as many species as you would like.
  • Limit your story to one to ten minutes long.
  • Add captions to all photos.
  • Include the text “Monthly Challenge — Baby Wild Animals” as all or part of your story's subtitle.

Challenge Requirements

While I hesitate to define rules, please apply these basic requirements to your stories:

  • While nature involves death, killing, and sometimes cannibalism, please do not include these topics in your story or photos of baby wild animals. Also, exclude photos of animal carcasses. However, it would be acceptable to describe infant mortality among a species, for example, but not as the story’s main subject.
  • Add the tag “Monthly Challenge” as one of up to five tags for your story. Doing this will make your story automatically appear on the “Monthly Challenge Stories” feature page.
  • Credit the names of photographers, including yourself, in photo captions.
  • To be published in Wildlife Trekker in June 2022, submit your stories by June 29, 2022.
  • Submit as many as one story per day for the entire month.
  • Follow the Wildlife Trekker story submission guidelines as described in A Call for Articles
