Synopsis

There seems to be a stereotype about old retired people sitting on their porches, in their rocking chairs, watching the world go by. Like most stereotypes, nothing could be further from the truth.

The Villages

There are over 3,000 clubs in The Villages, Fl. — some extremely active, like running and bicycle clubs. I can look out to Lake Sumter and see the dragon boats practicing, just like those at the start of the tv show Hawaii 5–0. The movie, Poms, depicted women trying to form a cheerleading team. There is a two-year wait to join the main team in The Villages.

As for us, we go dancing every day. The poor desk clerk in Budapest was shocked when I told her it was rock-n-roll. The dance floor is usually pretty full when the band is playing lively music.

Unlike the 60’s teenage movies, I haven’t seen anybody flip their partner over their back, but I've seen other things. Yesterday, to the line “Rosie on my chest” in the song The Wanderer, a man on the dance floor lifted his shirt up to his forehead. I didn’t see any rose or tattoo, though. Even stranger things can happen on the dance floor.

My antics

Last night at City Fire, we got tired after five really fast songs and went back to our table for a drink. After my wife sat down, I started to unbutton my shirt. It was hot.

The lady in the booth behind us looked like she couldn’t believe what she was seeing. You should have seen her expression after I got it completely unbuttoned.

I reached over my shoulder, grabbed the collar, pulled it over my head, and threw it into our booth. Her look of shock was priceless! And so was the huge smile.

I was wearing my dress t-shirt underneath, complete with a pocket, so I didn’t see any problem. I’ve worn those t-shirts to City Fire before.

Conclusion

It doesn’t pay to fall for stereotypes. There were a few really young people on the dance floor. Though at age 74, I am considered part of the younger set. Others are in their 80’s and 90's.
