Why you should develop a learning mindset?

The one line in my mind palace that has stuck in bold and capital letters is this,

Never stop learning because life never stops teaching quote

I have always considered the world to be a classroom and myself an eternal student. Learning does not have to be job-specific. It happens everywhere and unintentionally. You either love it and absorb it, or you hate it and forget it.

Attending a university course is one way to learn, and preparing for exams is another. These mediums provide experiences that are meaningful, interactive, and goal-based. Some of the best learning happens when we least expect it, the other day when I was watching Ted Lasso, I felt like I had gained my Master's degree in Servant Leadership. So much learning took place by just watching one season of the American sitcom Ted Lasso, that I already have a blog to reflect on what I’ve learned.

Observing people who learn around me, I have listed a few reasons why learning occurs,

  • to gain accreditation for career progression
  • to gain knowledge and improve the working experience
  • to solve a specific problem
  • to have relevance in a current role or move into an aspiring one

Rarely do we encounter someone who learns for fun, without the above reasons. If you develop a passion for learning, no one can stop you from growing. Just as your body requires muscle training, so does your mind.

As humans, we have the most privileged gift from nature, ever-advancing intellectual development. Organizations with a growth mindset encourage employees to chart their development plans.

These habits of successful learners can help you develop a learning mindset,

  • A daily habit of reading
  • Listen to people, have conversations, exchange ideas
  • Look for ways to grow, be curious to listen

  • Physical exercise is the foundation of intellectual progress. Nourish to flourish!
  • Have a variety of interests
  • Develop an addiction to progress
  • Motivated by the outcome, you will either learn to succeed or learn from mistakes, either way, you learn, you win
  • Learning excels from the knowledge that is shared rather than knowledge that is gained
  • Just like your smile and yawns, make learning contagious

It is never too late to begin, so let’s get started now.

Whenever I write or draw something based on my consumed knowledge, I learn better. Writing is my way of learning for fun. Please do not forget to express your appreciation for this article after reading it.
