viding my $5 up should add up to less than a penny per article. Why We Should All Binge Fellow Writers’ Articles

there’s proof it makes a difference to your $$$$$

A buffet of goodies awaits! photo courtesy of Pixabay.com

Up until last week, there was a certain method to my reading habits on Medium.

I would check my notifications, and starting at the top, I would read an article by each writer who had clapped, responded, or highlighted one of my stories.

Until early in the week, when I found myself enjoying a specific author’s style of writing and storytelling ability.

It was Don Drewniak’s stories that first captured my imagination; his sense of humor just hit my funny bone the right way and made me want to sit back in my recliner and keep clicking “next.”

Once I’d finished Don’s stories, I flitted off in search of more authors to binge-listen (yes, there is a real term — I didn’t coin it) and I stumbled upon (gasp!)

B.E. Ridenour — oh my, what a gem! But I didn’t realize that I’d done anything special until he published a story about it on Saturday.

Apparently, I’d read 20 of his stories (they were so engaging, and I wasn’t keeping count). What I didn’t comprehend was what impact this would have on his daily stats.

Read his story above to find out how much Medium paid him!

It completely blows away my theory that my reads pay less than a cent each.

What’s up with this, guys? How could my binge-listening to his articles make that much of a difference? I literally read 100’s of articles every month. Dividing my $5 up should add up to less than a penny per article. I am so confused!

However, if this is true — think about what it could mean:

We’ve been going about this reading thing all WRONG…..what if (like B.E. suggests) choose a different person each time to binge-read (or listen). What if someone else binges on OUR stories??????

Please, if anyone has any comments, I’d love to hear them!
