Why Some Money-Making Ideas Are Not Suitable For Us
A self-check reflection on ideas
As you read the articles on Medium, many writers present different ways to make more money than just writing. Sometimes the idea seems simple and attractive.
Before we look into the possibilities, may I suggest we self-check to see if the idea is practical? Any suggestion that works for another person may not be great for us.
We may copy the idea, but our motivation stems from a different consideration altogether. Why it is relevant for someone else may not be the same for us.
To give you an example of what I mean, just because you read about someone’s success with a particular endeavor, it does not mean it is the best thing for us.
If someone can make money trading in shares, it does not mean we can become like them. It may require a person with a specific risk profile and knowledge to attain the same success.
Here are some further considerations:
1. Personal preferences
Is the idea aligned with your personal preferences or values?
2. The timing of the idea
Is it the right time to test out the idea?
3. What’s the goal of the idea?
Is it also your goal?
4. Are your resources sufficient?
Some ideas require more resources. Do you have them available?
5. Do you have technical expertise?
Some ideas require a certain level of knowledge. Do you have them?
As we check through some of these questions, we will realize that not all ideas suit us. However, it may be possible in the future, but not now.
Be sure not to follow an idea blindly. Being inspired by someone making money with the idea, we need to search our hearts, know what motivates us, and follow the idea if we have a passion.
Otherwise, continue what we are doing without being distracted.
