Why most of the people don’t care about your story?

Life is hard sometimes.

When you are a type of person who likes to analyze and plan everything (such as a writer) you must be seeing why somebody’s life is a great inspiration despite being a failure or successful and not yours. Why your life is mediocre?

It is not. You know it. I know it. But people don’t give a damn about it.

Why somebody’s post on Medium going viral which is about a small life experience they had and why not that happening to you? Are you not a good writer? Are you not presenting it in a good way?

Possibly, but most of the time you are doing everything right. Problem is that’s what everyone is doing.

“Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.” — Margaret Mead

The irony is you are unique but so does everyone else.

The world is full of billions of people with billions of different experiences and different stories and you are a small part of it with your own little story which you think is very unique.

The problem is everyone is tired of reading all the stories of everyone being so unique, so they will read only so much of it. But, when they read somebody’s story which is the same as them they will like to read more of it.

So, instead of finding something unique from your story find something which others can relate. Think of it this way, if you have some unique experience(the time when you rode a shark or something) and you are sharing it with a world they will like it but they will think yeah good for you but chances are this will not happen to them.

But, if you are sharing experience which is more generalize than people will be able to relate it to their lives and they will share it with other people about it.

This is the reason why “How to make it big on Medium” are popping here and there. So do those online gurus which you have seen on Youtube ads. Because they know that everybody wants to earn some quick money or everyone is seeking for overnight success.

So, the idea is to be different, not unique. Being different is good because your idea is not the same as others but not that much different that nobody can relate.

Such as this article where I am not focusing on how to write on Medium rather I am focusing on what to write. It is different than those cliche articles but at the same time relatable to most of the writers.

This idea is not only for better writing or anything rather this can be applied anywhere in life.

If you look at all the big companies right now. They are not the ones with the most unique idea. You think they are unique but they are not. They are different but not unique.

Winklevoss and his brother are known for co-founding HarvardConnection (later renamed ConnectU) along with Harvard classmate Divya Narendra. In 2004, the Winklevoss brothers sued Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, claiming he stole their ConnectU idea to create the popular social networking site Facebook.

Facebook was someone else’s idea. But it was Zuckerberg who made it big. Before Amazon, there were a lot of eCommerce sites like eBay and others. But it was Bezos who became the world’s richest person.

Most of the time in life it is not about how unique your idea is it is how you execute that idea.

This is what happening in everyday life. Because there are too many people trying to do the same thing as you there is too much competition so you are forcing your brain to come up with a more unique idea. While you don’t need a unique idea as long as it is different and you are confident to work hard on that idea.

That is the story of you, me, and everyone. We are assuming life is a 100-meter sprint race and we are trying to run as fast as possible but life is a marathon.
