Summary

The website content discusses the growing trend of "Microdosing Moms," a movement where mothers use small doses of psychedelics to enhance their daily lives, improve mental health, and foster a deeper connection with their families and the world around them.

Abstract

The article titled "Why I’m Proud to Be Part of the Microdosing Moms Movement" delves into the phenomenon of mothers microdosing psychedelic substances, particularly psilocybin mushrooms. These moms report benefits such as improved presence and engagement with their children, heightened awareness, and a more profound sense of community and connectedness. The movement is seen as a response to the stresses of modern parenting and the limitations of traditional pharmaceuticals. The author, who identifies as one of these moms, cites various sources, including NPR and Insider Magazine, to illustrate the scope and impact of microdosing among mothers. The article also touches on the broader context of a "psychedelic renaissance" and the potential of earth medicines to address a crisis of consciousness in society, suggesting that these substances may offer a path to healing and transformation in the face of late-stage capitalism's challenges.

Opinions

  • Microdosing is presented as a tool for personal growth and healing, contrasting with the escapism associated with alcohol or other substances.
  • The author believes that psychedelics can help individuals become more aware and present in their lives, rather than using substances to "tune out."
  • The article suggests that the rise in microdosing among moms is a response to the isolation and burden of childcare in industrialized societies.
  • It is implied that the resurgence of interest in psychedelics and ancestral technologies is a reaction to the failures of late-stage capitalism and a reflection of a deeper crisis of consciousness.
  • The author expresses a personal anecdote of the benefits of microdosing, which aligns with the experiences of other moms in the movement.
  • There is a cautious optimism about the potential therapeutic benefits of microdosing, while also acknowledging that the scientific evidence is not yet conclusive.
  • The author encourages support for her work and the broader movement through memberships and donations, indicating a commitment to advocacy and community-building around earth medicines.

Why I’m Proud to Be Part of the Microdosing Moms Movement

You may not be aware, but a subset of the population participating in the psychedelic renaissance are moms who microdose.

I’m proud to be one of those moms. A quick Google search shows a slew of articles about this movement, such as “Moms who microdose ‘magic’ mushrooms say the psychedelic made them better parents.” This article from Insider Magazine describes how taking psilocybin mushrooms has helped moms who have battled depression and suicidal thoughts. It also assists moms to be more present with their kids and their lives in everyday life.

Comparisons have been made between moms microdosing mushrooms and drinking wine. However, as many of the microdosing moms discussed, mushrooms help you tune into your reality rather than tune out. The fact of the matter is that I, like many moms in the U.S. and other industrialized, Westernized countries, am isolated and too burdened with childcare. Mushrooms cannot magically change this reality, but they can help us to better, more consciously navigate our realities.

Yes, mushrooms can help us feel more connected; though they do not magically help us form a community, they help us feel held by the community we have and to help remind us of our connectedness and the sacredness of life. They also help us self-regulate, heal our traumas, and connect to our higher selves.

A transcript from an All Things Considered episode in NPR, “Thousands of moms are microdosing with mushrooms to ease the stress of parenting,” discusses how moms microdosing mushrooms are using these psychedelics as a natural therapeutic tool to help them relieve stress in a similar way to how moms of previous generations used valium, chardonnay, and other “mommy’s little helpers.” However, in contrast to alcohol, benzos, and anti-depressants, mushrooms help people become more aware, present, and conscious. They also help people wean themselves off of more harmful and numbing substances.

Though many of these articles warn that the science is not conclusive on microdosing, and people may have varying definitions of what dose is considered a microdose, the surge in the microdosing movement among moms and among the general population suggests that the effects are real. My anecdotal experience confirms this. I follow several advocates of microdosing and working with earth medicines on my various social media platforms, and I have joined several of these burgeoning communities.

I believe the psychedelic renaissance and the green wave are emerging because they can no longer be suppressed; humanity is at a critical juncture with the model of late-stage capitalism breaking down. Our public health and environmental crises stem from a crisis of consciousness. Working with earth medicines intentionally will help us regain our connectedness to ourselves, our families, and the greater world.
