Why I Write.
Ways it has straightened out my mind and imparted forgiveness.
Writing has really helped me to understand people, emotional problems and predicaments. Reading other writer’s posts has helped me to understand more about life and why I act the way I do. Writing has given me an outlet for all my grievances about situations and people in my life.
Writing on Medium.com has shown me that even though I am not the best writer, I am consistent and honest so maybe others can be as well. After two years or so (April 2018) I am still not making much money but I still enjoy it. I learned that if I stay with it good changes will occur.
Last year sucked but since it is becoming a more social and interactive platform things are looking up. For example, I am ready to get my $19.00 payment which is up from last month and all last year of around $10.00 a month. The “views” have climbed quite high but the “reads” are still low and that is what you are paid on. I just can’t understand their stats though. If I get 3,700 “views”, why are my “reads” so low? Makes no sense to me.
My opinion, I think they should do away with the “claps” setting since it doesn’t really account for anything except to make you feel bad about yourself when it is low. It does show who appreciates you but it still may be only a few people.
Also, according to my profile, I have 10,000 + followers but when I get the weekly stat update it only shows around 300 or 400 followers. Inconsistency is Medium’s middle name. I mostly ignore it all and just write on the average every other day.
I read a lot on Medium and it has helped me to be a better person. I read in all genres as I am a student of life. Life intrigues me and always has. I feel I will never learn everything, ever, so I stay curious.
I read, research it, and understand where that person is coming from. I may follow with writing about something that jumped in my mind about that subject and away we go. For example:
I wrote this from fears someone posted in an article I read. Medium gives me ideas to pull from when I write.
I wrote this because I was feeling stressed the other day regarding paying my bills. That’s how you write. I know other people do other things to stimulate their writing muse, but this is mine for now.
I hope this helped someone who is struggling to write. I just go with the flow for the most part. I worked for fifty years and don’t want to be so structured anymore with flow charts, calendar reminders, etc. I need to do it like this.
