Why I Fight the Impostor

He Is Wrong

I wrote yesterday about my regular struggles with the Impostor in my head that I have to battle on a fairly regular basis.

Yesterday was a struggle for me honestly. I had to fight hard to get him out of my head. I have a million different balls in play right now and I happened to hit a lull in the action. That is when he jumped in. I fought him off, although I was left pretty well drained due to it.

Today was proof that I am fighting the right battle. I knew I was on the right track with everything. Now I have proof to validate that. Several of the balls I put into play came back to me today. I am definitely making progress on several of my goals. What a difference a day makes.

That is why I fight the Impostor. He can be persuasive, but if I listen to him, then I have no chance of success. He loves to show up when I start pushing my comfort zone. That is how I know that I am actually growing.

The Impostor speaks on behalf of everyone who has ever doubted me. I try to use that as fuel. I love proving people wrong. Hell, I love proving myself wrong. When I prove myself wrong that lets me know I am continuing to learn and grow. So I persist.

It is not always easy. But days like today make the next fight a little easier. If you are struggling with an impostor of your own, focus on the good days. Those are the days you see the fruits of your labor starting to bloom. Let those signs fuel your battles.

The only way you lose is if you give up. That is all the impostor can do to win. He has to convince you to quit. If you don’t quit, he can’t win. He may sap your energy for a time, but in the end, he can’t win unless you let him.

So keep fighting. I know I am going to. Just refuse to give up. That is the path to success.
