Why I Don’t Post ‘My Progress on Medium’ blogs.

The truth is, I’m still too ‘new’ at this to post these kinds of blogs.

I still consider myself an amateur.

Even though I’ve been on Medium for two and a half years, the truth is I’ve only been consistent with writing for maybe a year, if not less.

Only two months ago (November 2023) did I kick things up a notch and start publishing at least 20 blogs per month.

I failed on that promise in December due to the holidays and all the events that came with this season, but I still got pretty close — I published fourteen blogs.

So, I’m giving myself grace and a pat on the back because I still did a lot more work than I did in the past when I had more time available.

But I digress…

Here are the reasons why I personally don’t like to post ‘My Progress on Medium’ blogs:

1. I haven’t done enough consistent work.

As I said, I’ve only been consistent with writing for about a year, and only two months ago did I change how much I’m writing and publishing.

This lack of consistency has affected my results.

Imagine if I had the same consistency level I have today, two years ago.

Who knows where I’d be today?

Maybe I would have a very large following and make a killing on this platform.

But the past is the past, and there’s nothing I can do to change that.

The good thing is, on this platform, I’ve learned and challenged myself to be consistent, to stick with something even when I don’t see immediate results, and to fall in love with the journey and the process of writing and making money with it.

Like I said, I still consider myself an amateur and genuinely feel like I’ve just started truly working on developing my online presence.

It feels like this is the beginning of my journey, and there’s much more to come.

2. My profile is too small for people to listen to what I say about growing a following.

This is why I say I’m still a newbie.

I have 374 followers currently.

That number is growing consistently each month, but it’s still small compared to those who are an authority on this platform (they have followers in the thousands, if not hundreds of thousands).

Why would I post blogs about growing a following when I don’t have the results to back it up?

I do have some results. I started at 0, and now I’m at 374, but this is when my previous point comes in.

I haven’t done enough consistent work to give anyone legitimate advice that would apply.

I only started becoming consistent recently, and what I can tell you is that it’s definitely working.

There’s more engagement with my blogs, my views and reads are increasing, and my follower count is increasing.

But again, I haven’t been doing this for long enough to start telling other people what they can or should do to get this type of result.

Maybe six months or a year from now, I’ll have something to say about it, but for right now, I’ll stick to writing what I want.

This leads to my next point.

3. I’m not trying to build a profile or build in a niche that’s about this topic.

This is not what I want to be known for.

I’m more than happy to share what I see is working for me, but I do not want to be known as the person who tells other people what they can or should do to grow a presence online.

I want to be known for my compelling blogs that teach and motivate people how to live a better lifestyle.

To work on their emotional maturity, to make better decisions for themselves, and to start living more authentically.

I want to be known as a content creator who makes a difference in people’s lives.

And I don’t think that writing progress blogs will get me there.

Like I said, I’m more than happy to share the strategies that I believe are doing something for me, like publishing more frequently, but that’s not what I want most of my content to be.

The truth is, I don’t enjoy writing about it.

So why waste my time writing about something that doesn’t spark my interest and creativity?

If you take anything away from this, I hope it is that you should write what you’re genuinely interested in, what sparks your imagination and your creativity, and what speaks to your soul.

Life is short; don’t waste time trying to do or be something you’re not.
