For Friendship — for Friendship’s sake

Why I Cared To Become A Friend Of Medium — [FoM]; And Why I Left It — [For Now]

In Recent Days, Much Change Is Upon Us; Let Me Impart A Note From My Circuit Of The Writing Tree

Aye, to be a friend, amidst you all — For you never know where it’ll lead you; all this wayward business, y’know!

Never falter, I recall that being said to me, by Nobody else more vehemently than Myself — Oh, cry havoc for that, I suppose. The opinion one can possess of drubbing themselves once any sign of the mildest danger shows is an awful thing — it is much easier to find one that will run from the storm, than one who will forebear it.

— There has been much change concerning this Curious Platform in the recent fortnight and months proceeding —

Not to enlarge any issues that have been plaguing this particular system in recent times, but one cannot deny the flux involving almost all writers on this platform, and I did sign a welcoming breath of relief when I was surprised by a certain email I received a few fortnights ago — which by now, going by my time, is a few months — which, I ascertain, most of you received too; if email reception is your open opinion!

Medium has been making a larger push for its new FoM subscription plan, and I think in a quite tactful way they have done this, if I am not mistaken, that is, sending out the holotype email a fortnight or so ago, and waiting to send more and more prompts;

— Of course, they must’ve been eagerly awaiting feedback, so why not hear it from the brave, before the flock jumps in thereafter? I say this with all the sight my eyes can garner for me; so I wonder, what has been garnered since? —

The email and what it concerned for those still aloof in your mystery about what hullabaloo this trap-jaw is uttering about, well, it was concerning about a new Subscription option on this here-system and elevation known as Medium, and it goes something like this, dear wunderkind:

So, a week went by — then a fortnight — then, maybe another week [s] — have since passed, when this new subscription plan arrived, almost concurrent to my return to Medium after a brief sojourn — feels like a little lemur is playing with me, but pity on my poor ol’ soul!

My hope in observing this thing in the last few months is that it will encourage good readership between writer and reader, and reward this relationship with genuine dollars, and engagement; perhaps a divide will widen between a mere viewer of someone’s piece on here, and a true reader — but I believe in the better extant.

Now I’ve been waiting around, percolating if you like, on writing this, as hasty first impressions are brilliant to have, but not all have such luxuries, whereas that isn’t what I aspired with this piece.

For anyone New — [Yet also Old] — I assure this new prospect will throw a spanner in the works, causing a right ruckus.

So let me help the circulation of this system with a few imparting stories from a couple of friends of mine. In truth, I couldn’t care for the majority of pieces that will be, have been, or ever shall be written on this platform — how could I dare such a thing, I haven’t got that much time, despite what the name says of time-seer! So I remain true to what I can behold in my heart, and perceive the sincerity behind said pieces.

From now on, there will be a wee sect to stories written by someone I consider concurrent to the piece that you’re reading at hand — I don’t want to daunt you down a rabbit warren labyrinthine escapade, that in itself, is quite enough;

I truly believe on a platform like this, the Writer’s best aid is one another first — like any good group from the days just past yesterday, then the reader like you!

So here I impart one from my dear mate, Kendalin Jane:

May I also share one from the good sir, Dr Mehmet Yildiz (Tech):

Being an utter hoarder of your time; what a-greed, yeah, I know — but how could I resist?

Moving along —

For Friendship — for Friendship’s sake

Now, that line may regard me to suspicions of a sardonic undertow to it — in a mild sense, that would be true, but that’s not all.

Concerning that I am now displaying stories from my worthy friends, it may seem to you I am a charitable one, and that would be fair to reflect on, but I am curious if one can set up a network within the platform, as it seems to be the must if anyone hopes to garner any kind of meaningful traction, and quite right too.

Bemoaning things that shan’t immediately work out in one's favor is not in my purse of grievances — I hope to see things as they are before I start to involve myself — perhaps I am without passion, and in all fairness, that may be the best thing since passions do send a somebody to an early grave, if sated!

Harry Hogg — there’s a good fella to speak when concerning this new invention on the platform. Another fella I would say I made the leap of faith for is Philip Writes — the grade of your audience will far outdo the mere size of it.

And I am a firm reader of this decent sir, and I must admit, fellow rabble-card holder and friend of. So hush your lips if you believe favoritism is at play here — to some extent it is, but I am firm in my love for the ones I believe to be close or close enough with me.

So why did I leave — [for now] — in plain speak, I haven’t been reading enough to justify the extra expense on the ledger, that is all, so until I can find a spare room for this expanse, I shall remain the faithful observer of the Friends’ Of Medium.

In truth, I have never used this platform for expression, which is far too drab and limiting — Pish and dish!; I embarked on this endeavor to gain knowledge also — art itself, shouldn’t be believed purely as a form to express one’s feelings through, but a precise implement to garner the most precious knowledge that cannot be found or contrived elsewhere.

I am a seer of empiricism, scientific intrigue, and forbearance, and a good shammy up the backside! Colder may be my word to the ones who immediately default on emotional impact, but I ask, if I could ever ask for anything is for you to pause in your locomotion and consider — just that; give a moment to settle in and perhaps even live with you.

Many wish to be told the things they want, never how to conjure it up in the first place — you become so reliant on the fishing rod that when the string breaks and there is no replacement in sight, well, the outcome is finally certain thereon.

“Don’t become melted choccy pudding once heated-stress is totally over you!” —

That is what I do — On the Writer series is a prime example of that; some talk about wisdom, and I hope to show it.

I repeat, haggardly now, that Words are nothing without the ideas they represent. Oftentimes, inadequately— whether that is the tool's fault or the operator behind it, is open to debate.

Ever and I will protest over the pretentious usage of words — especially idioms that flounce a royal feather or two of this bird and her red crown of plumage! ;)

And in the end, all I can say to champion my defense is that I snagged the free bag — so there!

But what it comes to is that the current Market for reading eyes and curious minds is an over-crowded place, with tempting headlines being climactic sovereign over all others: “This what happens when you place two pieces of bread in the same slot in a toaster!” — Oh, what happens! What happens? — I reply in my modern shame!

And the cycle keeps on blinkard, with barely a feather ruffled, only the ones who truly care about the state of Knowledge, burn ever brighter inside.

So it may be time for them to migrate while the gandering gooses nibble this pasture down to bedrock!; That may mean me again with it being permanent.

Therefore — success!; Such a word irks me; figure out which one.

But who knows? — until then, Ta-ta, Now.

Ever yours; The Doctor [Adams]
