Why Do People Deceive Others by Pretending To Be Rich?
I was one of them — and it made me sick.
It is no secret that some people pretend to be rich.
While there are several reasons why someone might do this, one of the usual is they are trying to impress others.
My parents got a big break to financial freedom when their trucking business scaled — and earned them big bucks.
And they decided to enroll me in an exclusive school for buys — and I met many rich guys in town.
I was a boy raised in the province — but eventually transformed into a social climber. The very reason is I wanted to fit in.
Whether it is blending in with a specific group of people in school or the office,
Or to make themselves feel better about their economic condition
Pretending to be rich is usual everywhere you go. You merely need to define somebody who falls under this group.
I belong syndrome
There are a few reasons people might pretend to be rich, even if they are not.
As I have said — one of the most common is because they want to fit in with those around them.
Back in 1993, I did not care about designer brands.
It was in that school that I knew Dr. Martens, Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Ferragamo, Lacoste — and so on
I barely used my allowance to buy shoes and shirts attached to these designer brand logos.
All guys — in junior and senior high school cannot wait for Friday. It was the time to show off their stuff — and including me.
If all of your friends are wealthy and always talking about their latest designer purchase or expensive vacation,
It can be easy to feel left out if you can’t participate in the conversation.
My teenage memories were so vivid, but I am happy that I did not carry on those insecurities.
There is still petty stuff, but no worries — I can manage it.
Better than before
Another reason why someone might pretend to be rich is that they want to appear more successful than they are.
In today’s society, wealth is seen as a status symbol. And pretending to have more money than you do can make you feel better about yourself.
You think that by performing this act — you have a place in the world.
Do not get me wrong — sometimes, I revisit my heart when I post on Instagram or Facebook.
I would be guilty when I post to flex something contrasting with my intention. The same principle applies to other guys in my network.
A humble post was never one because you can sense what they are trying to do.
Fake it — until you make it
There are many guys out there pushing FB advertisements.
Riding a sports car or eating gelato while working on the beach. Some are cons — while others are legit.
Online marketers pretend to be someone because they are trying to sell — and scam others’ money.
It is not a good way to pretend to be wealthy — and others still get away with it.
Final Thoughts
Whether it’s to fit in with those rich folks or make themselves feel better about their financial situation,
Pretending to be wealthy is more usual than you might think. While there are several reasons why someone might do this
It is vital to remember that not everyone who appears wealthy is as well-off as they seem.
