Why a Tidy Desk Is So Important for Me

How can a cluttered desk affect our productivity?

Not everyone is like me, who needs a tidy desk to work. A clean desk helps me think with clarity so I can focus on doing one thing right without multitasking.

But the truth is that a tidy work desk is tough to come by. Let me remind you why:

1. You received mail from the letterbox which you have not read 2. You had some bills that you have not paid 3. There is a book that you wanted to read 4. There is another heap of printed papers that you are reading half-way 5. You collected some brochures of appliances from the store 6. There are wires of mobile phones and other devices 7. You wrote some sticker notes to remind yourself of some tasks 8. You have a portable speaker which you have not found a place to keep 9. You have some remote controllers for the fan or aircon on your desk 10. You may have some plants or souvenirs lying around 11. You may have some snacks left from yesterday 12. You may have some folders lying around

I’m unsure if I have stressed you when you picture a desk like this.

That’s why I reminded my readers previously why it may be better to work in your company’s office. Usually, most offices are hot-desking, and you cannot leave personal belongings behind.

In case you want to find my article, I’ll leave it here for you:

Why a clean desk is essential for me:

1. Less distraction My eyes will be able to focus on my work and not on any other possible tasks on my desk.

2. Less stress I do not enjoy crowded places, so I naturally do not want a cluttered desk.

3. I feel more positive about myself Maybe this is physiological, but it affects my mental state. Like I am more in control of my tasks.

4. I am more likely to complete one task at a time An uncluttered desk helps me to focus on one important task and nothing else.

I hope you agree with me and do something to organise your desk. It may not be perfect, but at least you try, and if you can succeed, send me a message.
