Whoopjamboree Alert
What are your plans?

Perhaps I was eager to be done with July or maybe I just wanted to get a jump on August; I don’t know. But this morning I went ahead and changed the page on the calendar on the wall in my kitchen. It is now officially August in my home (even though it is still July 31st elsewhere).
What a relief! The photo for July was of some courthouse surrounded by American flags. How uninspiring. The new photo for August is of an old broken down windmill sitting alone out in the middle of the prairie with a small butte in the distance. Ahh, that’s so much more relaxing.
I have long advocated the doing away with calendars. They are bars that keep us imprisoned in the illusory concept of linear time. Can you imagine what a wonderful world it would be if there were no calendars? How free we would all be to live our lives in the eternal present? Of course the international association of landlords would never allow that. We all need to know when the rent is due, right?
The main reason I keep a calendar on my wall is to keep track of lunar cycles. That’s important to me. It is nice also, though, to be kept abreast of obscure holidays like International Friendship Day — which is August 2nd. Right now I’m trying to plan how I will celebrate that holiday.
I suppose I could have friends over for a small barbecue whoopjamboree. But sadly I do not own a barbecue grill and most all of my friends live hundreds or thousands of miles away. I would have had to send out invitations a couple of weeks ago. But I didn’t because I didn’t know that Sunday is International Friendship Day until I turned the page on the calendar this morning.
I could charge the hell out of my phone and spend the day calling those distant friends. That would be a nice way to spend a hot, humid Sunday. Of course those friends might not have much time to talk because they’re at some other friend’s barbecue whoopjamboree.
See how frustrating calendars can be?
So what are your plans for International Friendship Day? And how many international friends do you have? Are time zones a factor in your planning for this holiday? Have you even begun planning yet?
