Summary

The article discusses the assassination attempt on Alexander Dugin through the killing of his daughter Darya Dugina by a car bomb, speculating on potential perpetrators and implications for Russia's political landscape.

Abstract

The recent car bombing that killed Darya Dugina, the daughter of prominent Russian ideologue Alexander Dugin, is widely believed to have been an attempt on Dugin's life. Dugin, who is considered a key influence on Putin's foreign policy and an advocate of Russian neo-fascism, narrowly escaped the attack by changing his travel plans at the last minute. The incident has sparked speculation about who is responsible, with theories ranging from Russian opposition forces to foreign agents, though the article suggests Russian opposition as the most likely culprit. The attack is expected to lead to a crackdown on dissent within Russia and may be used by Putin to further consolidate power and frame the West as an aggressor. The article also critiques the celebratory reactions on social media by some Westerners, questioning the outcomes and wisdom of seeking regime change in Russia.

Opinions

  • The author believes it is unlikely that Putin or an individual acting alone is responsible for the attack, leaning towards the involvement of either Russian opposition or foreign agents.
  • The article implies that Alexander Dugin has significant influence over Putin's actions, with Russia's foreign policy closely mirroring Dugin's "4th Political Theory."
  • There is skepticism about the effectiveness of a regime change in Russia, with concerns about the potential for even more radical leaders to emerge if Putin and Dugin were removed from power.
  • The author expresses distaste for the celebration of violence on social media, emphasizing the complexity of the situation and the need for a cautious approach to desiring political change in Russia.
  • The article suggests that the aftermath of the attack will likely result in increased repression in Russia, particularly against those who oppose Putin's regime.

Who killed Alexander Dugin’s Daughter?

Who killed Darya Dugina and what’s going to happen next in Russia?

Since the Russian attack on Ukraine began in February 2022, many Westerners have hoped for a regime change in Moskow. Internet users and the media were speculating about Putin’s health condition. Several nations put sanctions on Russian oligarchs and politicians.

Recently, we saw several “accidents” at Russian military facilities.

And now, the daughter of Alexander Dugin got killed by a car bomb. She attended a festival near Moskow with her father. He was supposed to be in that car but changed his plans last minute.

There is not much doubt that someone tried to kill Alexander Dugin.

Darya Dugina was known as a radical Putin supporter, but her father, Alexander Dugin, is rumored to be one of Putin’s primary advisors and the mastermind behind Russian neo-fascism. He is a high-profile target for anyone who supports a regime change in Russia.

Several experts try to downplay Dugin’s influence on Putin, but looking at Putin’s actions and reading Dugin’s words makes it impossible to believe any of that. Russia’s current foreign policy is based on Dugin’s “4th Political Theory.”

Everything Putin does follows the playbook of Alexander Dugin.

Who tried to kill Alexander Dugin?

  1. Russian opposition.
  2. Foreign agents.
  3. An individual who hates Dugin.
  4. Putin.

I have no reason to believe that Putin intended to kill one of his leading advisors. It’s also hard to believe that an individual was able to execute this attack on one of the most prominent Russian propagandists.

There are two realistic options: Russian opposition & foreign agents.

Nobody knows if the CIA and other Western intelligence can still operate in Russia. For obvious reasons, the media does not report on this topic. Therefore, we cannot exclude the possibility that foreign agents carried out this attack, but it’s hard to believe.

This leaves us with the most realistic scenario behind this attack: the Russian opposition.

If that’s the case, we can be sure that Putin and his regime are already on the hunt for the ones behind this attack. It’s also certain that Putin will label these groups as puppets of Western governments.

What are the consequences of this attack on Alexander Dugin that killed his daughter Darya Dugina?

First, we can expect Putin to frame this as an attack by “the West” on Russians. Russian police will arrest anyone linked to this attack and anyone they accuse of supporting it. Life in Russia will get even worse for anyone opposing Putin after this murder.

But besides the impact on Russian society, we also have to talk about reactions on social media.

I don’t have any sympathies for Putin and his authoritarian regime that killed thousands of innocent Ukrainians. But I also don’t have any sympathies for European and American internet users celebrating someone getting killed in a car bombing.

I understand the desire for a regime change in Russia—but let’s say it happens; what would that look like?

Let’s say someone manages to kill Alexander Dugin and Putin. What would happen next? Do you think the ones behind these two men are less radical?

Do you think Russians would vote for a liberal like Alexander Navalny or that guy on Russian State TV (Vladimir Solovyov)?

Did you even think about that?

Everything is possible, and we don’t know anything—and that’s what makes this situation so dangerous.

This is not a day to celebrate; this is a day to worry about what happens next in Russia.
