Who Is Zulie Rane?

An interview with one of the top writers on Medium. How well do you know her?

If you’ve been writing on this platform for a while, you’ve most likely read or watched one of her articles or YouTube videos, which have already reached millions. Or perhaps you are one of her 47,385 followers as of today.

She is one of the most prolific writers, and a frequent collaborator at The Startup, Better Marketing, and Mind Café publications. Besides that, she creates writing courses, and YouTube videos, and writes for private clients.

You could say she is busy all the time, but contrary to other people who excuse themselves behind their busy schedules, she is always willing to help her fellow writers. I’m living proof of that.

When I started writing on this platform, I had the fortune to run across her YouTube videos, where she explains all the basics of how to write, publish, and make your articles go viral. Furthermore, if you subscribe to her mailing list, you can be sure that she will take the time to answer your questions.

Besides being a cat lover (ask Chumbo and Astrid, her two cats), she is a patient teacher, who mastered this craft. She just started a ghost account from scratch using a pen name that already has hundreds of followers, and according to her video, she made $700 this month from her new account.

But I wanted to know more about her, not from the perspective we as her readers and followers have, but from her point of view. Thinking this is also something her readers would love to know about how she sees herself.

Hello Zulie, let’s start with the tough questions...

- Hi Jose Luis. - Happy to share! Tough questions, but I’ll give it my best try.

Q- Who are you, and what do you do?

- My name is Zulie Rane. I am a content creator and cat mom.

Q- What is your current job?

- I write freelance articles for clients and create content for my audience.

Q- What do you consider your most significant achievement?

- Building a happy and sustainable lifestyle for myself with a job I love.

Q- Which is the most important lesson you’ve learned?

- Too many to pick one! The one that resonates with me most right now is that consistent effort isn’t enough to grow. You have to pair it with an analytical mindset to understand when the pure effort isn’t enough, and you need to change or alter things to make something work.

Q- What book(s) are you currently reading?

- Dawnshard by Brandon Sanderson. I’m currently working my way through a re-read of his Cosmere novels.

Q- What book(s) do you recommend?

- I like anything by Jasmine Guillory, N. K. Jemisin, and Nnedi Okorafor.

Q- Where can we find your work?

- I post articles on zulie.medium.com, videos on YouTube.com/zulieranewrites, and selfies on instagram.com/zulierane

Q- From all your work, which one do you think is your best piece, and which would you recommend us to read?

- Again, there are so many pieces I’m proud of! I especially like this one, titled “The Terrifying Rise of Child Influencers and the Parents Who Profit.” I worked extremely hard on it and wrote it about a topic I am very passionate about, the effects of social media on us.

Q- What advice would you give your younger self?

- Some people won’t like you. Get over it.

Q- What advice would you give us?

- Make sacrifices to follow your dreams. The life you build as a result will be worth it.

Thank you for your time, Zulie.

-You're welcome

-If you want further information, I’ve created this FAQ blog post that covers 75% of the questions I get asked.

-Here’s the blog post. It’s a friend link, so you don’t need to be a Medium member to read it.

Happy writing -Zulie

Take away.

In my article “10 Books the Dalai Lama Reads and Recommends”, I explained how after I got in touch with His Holiness, I discovered how the most important people make time to help others, regardless of their fame, status, or how busy they are.

Zulie proves over and over that she doesn’t just preach but always delivers what she promises. She is always willing to help her followers via a video, article, or email. And that she doesn't only look for likes, reads, or considers us to be money machines trying to sell us her courses.

If you’re searching for help on how to write on this platform, I recommend you to go to her YouTube channel, where you will find the answer.

Furthermore, every time you doubt doing a living writing, remember her words:

- The world would be a better place if everyone who wanted to write actually wrote.

- Writers should be able to make a living by writing about what they love.

- There is an unlimited audience for your writing, no matter what you write about. You just have to find it. — Zulie Rane
