Abstract

"White Lilies" is a contemplative poem that captures the emotional journey of someone who feels they are falling into a dark, bottomless void. The poem describes the sensation of being drawn into an abyss, with only a thin streak of light visible in the vast, disappearing sky. The future is depicted as uncertain, likened to an unwritten melody. Amidst this existential dread, the narrator encounters a surprising reprieve in the form of a quiet garden with green grass and white lilies, offering a temporary respite from the freefall. This garden serves as a metaphorical breathing space within the relentless void. The poem questions when the freefall will resume and whether it is better not to know or care. The white lilies, symbolizing purity and hope, seem to convey a message from the depths of the pit. The content also includes a call to action, inviting readers to join the "Poetry Playground" and explore more poetry, as well as providing links to the author's publication and social media profiles.

  • The poem implies that the journey through hardship is unpredictable, with moments of calm amidst chaos, as symbolized by the freefall and the garden.
  • The question of whether to anticipate the resumption of hardship (the freefall) indicates a philosophical stance on acceptance and the choice to not dwell on future adversities.
  • The invitation to the "Poetry Playground" and the provision of the author's publication and social media links express a desire to connect with the audience and foster a community of poetry lovers.

White Lilies

I’m at the bottom of a pit and still falling. Earth gave way, a bottomless dark void

drawing me in —

Light, a thin silver streak in a vast disappearing sky. The future is unsure, an unwritten melody

a bottomless drain, not yet out of control?

A locked iron gate, stops my freefall spiral halfway. A quiet garden at the bottom of a nameless pit. Patches of green grass and white lilies all around. a temporary stop, a pleasant respite, a breathing space,

in this bottomless dreary suck-the-energy-out-of-you void.

When will the freefall begin again? Maybe it’s best not to know, or not to care too much. Smiling white lilies, a message at the bottom of a bottomless pit?
