Whispers Of The Wind
Alpas —setting spirits free
Hearken the humming bird’s trill Or the lark’s hymn for the soul fill I breathe in zealous air, unbridled Beneath clear blue skies, unbarred
Fair winds to the shape of my sail Fair winds, gently may you hail
Rainbow speckled meadows emerald green Awakening anew, many a feather to preen Icicle droplets of dew on fronds frosted gay Drizzles to graze canopies from skies grey
Bend my way, the light of sturdy might Lend me the valor, to brave the night
Tickling tingles rousing feet stalled in heath Pebbled sands prickling from earth beneath Hope in the scent of a placid frangipani¹ Joy amongst waves onto sunbeams shiny
Sway away, in tresses whizzing carefree Alpas² — to set the spirits in jubilant spree!
The plan here is to let loose and set yourself free at Paper Poetry this September!
We are on to exploring theme Alpas², the Tagalog/Filipino word expressing the notion of freedom or to become free. It can also mean and be used in the context of escape, let loose and/or flight.
We comprehend, experience and express freedom in more than one way. Spanning from the inexplicable sense of freedom a caged bird may feel upon its release to that trivial tingling excitement within dull routine which has us convinced with “I’ve got this!”, a medley of sensations may be attributed for that elation. The attempt here is to try and capture the surge of such emotions with good old pen ‘n paper for Paper Poetry this month.

- 2 — Alpas — Alpas is a Filipino word (and Filipino itself is a standardized variety of the Tagalog language) which means to become free or break loose. Alpasan also means loose, set free or let go.
