Summary

The Paper Poetry Series is introducing a new themed poetry series called 'Alpas', inviting poets to explore the concept of setting free through their craft, with the opportunity for recognition and increased visibility.

Abstract

The Paper Poetry Series has launched a new initiative called 'Alpas', which encourages poets to delve into a theme deeply by writing a series of four interconnected poems. This series aims to provide a platform for poets to express themselves and showcase their work, with the chance to be featured in the Paper Poetry publication, mentioned in the newsletter, and promoted on social media. The upcoming series will be written by Viraji Ogodapola from Sri Lanka, who embodies the spirit of 'Alpas'—a term meaning to set free—through her writing and personal philosophy. The series is part of a broader effort by the Paper Poetry team to bring diverse cultural perspectives to the forefront and challenge writers to take the road less traveled, as inspired by Robert Frost's famous poem.

Introducing ‘Alpas’

Dear Paper Poetry Patrons, Hello, Bonjour, Olá, Salaam, Hola, Nǐn hǎo, Konnichiwa, Guten Tag, Namastay, LOVE.

The other day I found myself questioning, why do we write poems? And I found my soul answering, “ You write poems because you are finally listening to yourself.”

I believe this is true for all you soulful poets who put their heart on paper via words in a rhythm. A melodious rhythm mesmerizing the poet and the patrons equally.

There are poems inside you that paper can’t handle ~ Y. Z

And for all such poems inside you, we have come up with poetry series. A themed series of four poems in a row.

Poetry Series

The vision of the Poetry Series is to bring forth a new perspective of exploring the artist in you. We provide this perspective via our themes, to explore the unknown, to take the road less traveled, and to make a difference.

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

~ Robert Frost

Our editorial team dives deep and digs fervent topics/concepts veiled across cultures. We then present them to you to unveil and make us see them through your eyes.

We invite you to explore the unchartered turf and claim it as your own in the Paper Poetry publication.

We are your biggest patrons and excited to experience the vivacity and verve you weave into words for these themes.Your Prize

Upcoming Series : Alpas

We are glad to announce our sixth poetry series writer. She is from the beautiful island country, Sri Lanka. A mother of two who loves to read and believes in living in the moment. She is deep into meditation and practicing mindfulness. Dear readers and writers, kindly join me in welcoming Viraji Ogodapola on the Poetry Series stage.

She describes herself as,

“ashes dusted away in morph, in that moment next I’d be.. for now, here I am, grappling in just being..”

She will be using her craft on the theme Alpas, which means to set free.

Alpas was a new word for her, however, the spirited soul she is, chose to take on the challenge the unknown poses to a writer.

She nodded to break free and explore Alpas in-depth. She promises to take us on a jouney by setting ourselves free in an unrevealed domain.

It is her dream to meet some real aliens one day. Probably, breaking free the boundaries of this realm as Alpas commands.

In her first poem, Whispers Of The Wind, she is listening to the simple yet subtle whispers of the wind and harking them to set her soul free.

From The Archives

Below is the Poetry Series’ esteemed Hall of Fame. We have had several successful series on diverse themes.

Their craft is permanently on display on the Paper Poetry homepage.

For a glance, the themes explored so far are:

  1. Ubuntu: South African proverb for I am because we are.
  2. Mizpah: Hebrew for deep emotional bond between people separated by distance or death.
  3. Wabi — Sabi: Japanese for beauty in imperfection.
  4. Daou: Arabic for light & illumination.
  5. Aurora: The fifth series did not proceed due to unforeseen circumstances.

How It Works

You could be our next PS writer. We invite you all to write for our themed poetry series.

Once on board, we offer you a theme/theme. You pick one. We ask for a commitment of four poems in a month, one poem per week on the theme.

The poems must be serially connected as in episodes of a tele-serial to manifest the theme.
