WRITING PROMPT RESPONSE
When Snow Falls onto Spring’s Blooming Magnificence
It’s the tiny things in life that count

There are very few things in life that excite me more than a snowy weather forecast. Even growing up in Germany I always loved snow. But after living for years in a desert and spending a lot of time abroad in countries that receive none of this white wonder, I grew even more attached to the beauty of snow.
My job of jumping out of planes forces me to follow summer around the world, which unfortunately means I’m escaping winter whenever moving to a new home.
This is why, whenever possible, I do try to get a glimpse of this winter joy. Usually, this isn’t in the middle of the season but rather at the beginning of the European winter in late November or at the end, towards March and April.
“Kindness is like snow. It beautifies everything it covers.” — Kahlil Gibran

Trying to experience snow so early or late in the season means I have to go to the mountains to see any of it.
But this time snow came and visited me. Right at my doorstep. I could watch the snow falling in front of my window while doing my tax returns (and finishing them).
Yes, I was very motivated by that lovely sight of snowflakes dancing onto the earth.
“With every falling flake, a unique spark of interest falls from heaven.” — P. Miller

I captured these tiny packages of snow in my parents’ front yard.

While spring has been in full swing, April arrived with a load of snowy parcels. Those tiny packages landed right on top of spring's colorful blooms.

I wasn’t prepared for a long photo shoot and went outside with no jacket, gloves, or winter cap. My fingers soon started shivering and I was struggling to keep the flowers in focus.

But the beauty was too rare not to keep going and taking another photograph or two.
I could see the turtle was freezing (it’s one made of clay) but stayed in place to supervise the spring garden.

I had uploaded these images already when I read Dennett’s latest writing prompt for Weeds & Wildflowers asking for “Tiny Packages”. I still have not responded to the March prompt but since her photography challenges have no deadline, I can do that later.
If you have tiny packages to share, read the prompt and respond:
For now, I am sharing these spring flowers covered in a white blanket. A rare sight (for me) and a beautiful artwork made by no other artist than nature itself.
